The Praça do Giraldo is the undisputed heart of Évora, making it unique as the city's central and most historically significant public square. Its defining features include the distinctive Henry Fountain (Fonte Henriquina), an elegant Baroque fountain built in 1570, notable for its eight spouts representing the eight streets that converge here, and topped by a gilded bronze globe. Surrounding the square are picturesque arcades (arcos), housing traditional shops and cafés, which are characteristic of Évora's urban fabric and offer a lively atmosphere. The best terrace belongs to a cultural association called Harmonia Eborense, it is definitively one place to check out during the day or if you like to savour live music, at night. This square is named after the icon character of this town, "giraldo sem pavor" in English giraldo with no fear. He conquered the city back from Arabic people. As you can see in the town flag, he holds two heads, barbaric, but...
