Segredos do Douro — Restaurant in Alijó

This restaurant was recommended to us. When we arrived they were busy. Placing our food order was fairly quick. That’s where it ended. We only got 1/2 our order and couldn’t get our waitress attention. We had a salad and sausage plate. The salad was ok but the sausage was not edible. It had great flavour but leather is easier to eat. We finally got tired of waiting for the rest of our food or bill so I went to pay. After waiting 10 mins to get served at another restaurant just up the street, we left and came here (because we were impressed by the smell of the food when we'd walked past earlier). Almost as soon as we sat down we were handed menus and our wine orders taken based on the waiter's recommendation. And we were given a chance to try each wine even though we were buying by the glass. The menu was very basic and varies daily, so it is probably worth checking before you decide. They do have some standard dishes, but we found the roast pork and rice for 6.50€ a bargain. One star is too much for this place. Cheese and ham platter for 12 euros and they serve you 3 slices of cheese and 3 of ham or the worst quality that costs less than a euro in the supermarket. Chorizo sausage was burnt to the level of impossible to eat and bread was again below average to low quality instead of giving a normal homemade bread. Only decent thing in there was the house wine.
