Restaurante Beira Mar — Restaurant in Almada

Beware of the conning manager! Arrived at this beautiful beach for a day trip and stopped at this bar for a glass of port after an hour bus journey from caçilhas, the morning staff were lovely and friendly and we enjoyed a nice glass of chilled white port on their veranda. After a day on the beach we decided to go back to the same place for a glass of port to watch the sun go down and wait for the bus home. Different staff and manager on service. I again ordered 2 glasses of port (from manager), however this time instead of 6 Euros the staff presented me with a 16 Euro bill claiming this was vintage port. 'Sorry, I didn't order vintage port, just two glasses of ordinary Port please' that's what I asked your manager for. The poor waiter took the vintage ports back returning a minute later claiming the restaurant had no other port. 'But I was here a few hours ago and you had plenty of various ordinary ports then' No, we have no other port. 'Oh, really. Fine I'll just go to the bar next door and enjoy a port on their lovely veranda then, thank you' Which we did. The manager clearly thought he could pull a fast one and tried to overcharge us because he thought we were tourists. Shame really. This is my 4th trip to Portugal in 2 years and this was the 1st time anywhere has been less than lovely with us. I would never visit this establishment again as I do not appreciate someone...

Da ich Fischgerichte liebe u.insbesondere die portugiesische Küche&Kultur schätzen u. lieben gelernt habe,hätte ich das Restaurant gerne ausprobiert... jedoch wurde ich schon beim Betreten des Restaurants einfach ohne Grund (war auch ordentlich u. nicht im Bikini bekleidet)wie der letzte Dreck bzw. "Trottel" behandelt. Ob es an meiner dunklen Hautfarbe lag oder weil ich keine Einheimische bin, kann ich leider nicht beurteilen... Bin auch kein "Instagramer" oä, aufgrund des negativen Verhaltens sehe ich mich jedoch gezwungen, nun doch eine Beurteilung abzugeben: Nachdem man mich nicht bedienen wollte u. unfreundlich empfangen wurde, habe ich dann einfach beschlossen nur ein Wasser zu bestellen, da ja sehr offensichtlich kein längerer Aufenthalt gewünscht war. Mir wurde ohne zu fragen sofort das Gedeck weggenommen, auf den Nebentisch geknallt u. kein Menü gebracht oder danach gefragt.  Man hat mich nur auf Portugiesisch angesprochen (zuvor konnte man mir auf Englisch schon sagen, dass angeblich nur Tische in der Sonne frei wären u. Rest reserviert)u so getan,als ob man mich nicht versteht.Allerdings reichten meine Sprachkenntnisse um zu bestellen u. zu verstehen, dass mir anstatt eines prickelnden, kalten Wassers - eine 0,5l Flasche warmes, stilles zum Selbsteinschenken regelrecht hingeknallt wurde. Zu guter Letzt wollte man mir noch einreden,dass das Wasser 4€ kostet (hatte ja kein Menü u.nach nochmaligem, skeptischen Nachfragen meinerseits wurden mir eindeutig 4 Finger gezeigt...hab das schon richtig gehört u."Quatro" verstanden) Nachdem ich für so ein Service natürlich kein Trinkgeld gebe, habe ich anhand des Wechselgeldes u. der Rechnung gesehen, dass es wie üblich nur 2€ kostete. Mehr zu verrechnen, haben sie sich dann wohl doch nicht getraut. Dann wurde ich beim Verlassen des Restaurants von einem "Thank you!"mit sarkastischem Unterton verabschiedet. Habe sowas zum Glück nirgendswo in Portugal erlebt u. bin sehr enttäuscht! Anscheinend hat das Personal dieses Restaurants bestimmte Vorstellungen, wer dort essen darf u.wer nicht! Ihnen scheint es so gut zu gehen, dass sie sich die Gäste aussuchen...würde daher empfehlen das Restaurant zu meiden, um sich nicht den schönen Strandtag zu ruinieren! Sowas ist absolut nicht ok u. leider sehr schade.... ---Translated to English: Since I love fish dishes and especially appreciate and love Portuguese cuisine& culture, I would have loved to try the restaurant...However, as soon as I entered the restaurant,I was treated like dirt or an "idiot" for no reason at all(I was also dressed properly and not in a bikini)Whether it was because of my dark skin or because I'm not a local, I can't judge... I'm not an "Instagramer" or anything like that, but due to the negative behavior,I feel compelled to give a review: After they had refused to serve me and greeted me in an unfriendly manner, I decided to order a water, as they very clearly didn't want me to stay any longer. Without asking, my place setting was immediately taken away, slammed onto the next table, and no menu was brought or even asked for. They spoke to me only in Portuguese  and pretended they didn't understand me. (I had previously been told in English that only tables in the sun were available and the rest were reserved) However, my language skills were sufficient to order and understand that instead of sparkling, cold water, a 0.5-liter bottle of warm, still water was practically slammed down on my table which I had to pour into my glass by myself. Finally, they tried to convince me that the water costs €4(I didn't have a menu, and after further, skeptical questioning, I was clearly shown 4 fingers...I heard that correctly and understood "Quatro").I decided not to tip for such a bad service, therefore I could recalculate from the change & I saw on the bill that it was only €2, as usual. They apparently didn't dare charging more than that.Then, as I left the restaurant, I was greeted with a sarcastic "Thank you!" as I left.Fortunately,I haven't experienced anything like that anywhere in Portugal & I'm very...

I went there for lunch. As I was just one person, I was seated rather somewhere in third row- which I can understand as the other tables were bigger and they probably wanted to allow bigger groups to choose their place. My problem rather was that I was more or less forgotten there and after ordering, no one came to check for further wishes. As a consequence, I was not able to order an additional salad sauce to my salad - which I oversaw that you have to order extra, but on the other hand, I also was not made aware of it by the staff. Neither was I able to order something afterwards and I also could not tell them that there were onions in the salad, which was rather quite wilted, instead of the water cress.

In total, the view is amazing, but the quality of the food and there service can be improved, especially when there were only a few...
