We came for dinner and the place had only a couple tables full. We took our seats outside and the waitress really hurried us. We think it was because we asked if we could speak English, and they had to find someone who could. This was one of many things that seemed strange because the waiter who did this was later speaking English quite well eith other customers. Anyway, we were immediately told the only thing they had was 3 types of whole fish. Okay fine, but we specifically asked for sardines and the waitress told us none were available. I pointed to the sea breem dinner @€15 and she said yes. We received a truly enormous platter, and the fish was good, and the vegetables also fine. Strangely, sardines then appeared at two other tables. We asked about this and the waitress dropped her voice and said they booked in advance for them. This was strange as the waiter who passed us to hear explained to that table in clear English which types of fish were available, including the sardines. We pointed this out, then the story changed to something about how she knew we weren’t from there and only wanted to make sure we got something fresh as the sardines were frozen. Again strange as they were advertised everwhere else and sardines are in season in July when we were there. In any case, surely that should have been our choice. Finally the bill arrives and we expect to pay 2x15 or €30 for the fish. We were charged €40 and shown some different part of the menu where fish platters were advertised for that price when we protested. Well I was notcorrected when I pointed to the €15 dish; why so easy to do it afterwards? Be aware of what you order and take a picture...
Read moreThis resourant truly makes amazing grilled fish! We ordered the cuttlefish and sardines and I have never eaten fish this well made! The service was good in the beginning where we were shown a plate of fresh fish (caught that same morning) to decide what we were going to eat. The owner propebly gets a few good laughs a day seeing peoples surprised faces when he shows them a plate full of fresh fish. Nevertheless we decided for the sardines and cuttlefish, and it was amazing! The only downside is that it took quite some time to get a hold of a waiter (but the restourant had been almost filled up with people, so it was understandable) and we ended up with quite a large bill, because they give you a plate with cheese and sardine-paste along with some bread before the fish arrives. We knew it would cost us, but is was a lot more expensive then we thought. So just some caution for the ones that have a budget! But 4 stars for good service and food, but the surprise-bill...
Read moreIt‘s a trap on tourists! We paid 40euros for fresh fish with vegs. We had the same in Cascais for 20€ the day before in a restaurant which had better chairs, tables and no cats or dogs around you. It tastes good but we felt scammed! You don’t get a menu card, you don’t get any information about prices. They give you a cover with a piece of goat cheese and take 12 euros for that without asking or telling you before. The cheese costs 3 euros in the little shop. We showed the check to locals and they were shocked. People like these ruin the level of prices! They ruin futures. Hopefully this is shared a lot and that restaurants with fair prices in the village get...
