Café São João — Restaurant in Almada

Fresh, perfectly cooked sardines. You might think there's nothing difficult about that, but it's easy to end up with fish that’s been overcooked and dried out. These sardines were large, and six of them were more than enough to satisfy my hunger.

The indoor seating was comfortable, thanks to the air conditioning. Outside, there's a terrace along the road with passing cars. While it's always nice to sit in the open air, you should be aware of the dust from the traffic.

What I didn’t like: the extremely long wait. We waited for our small order—two servings of sardines—for about an hour. Meanwhile, the waitstaff were busy, constantly serving and clearing dishes for other guests. Perhaps we were just unlucky. We were with a child who was very hungry, and by the end of the wait, he was on the verge of throwing a tantrum.

Had a very good dinner tonight after a day spent on the beach ! Got to finally try some portuguese specialties (grilled mackerel) in a local place where they serve good quantities for a good price. My friends tried the half chicken and the choco frito which were also very tasty, it was worth the wait.

The service was so great thanks to the beautiful Alice who served us with a smile and was the sweetest the whole time we were there even though the restaurant was busy.

Quero expressar minha imensa gratidão ao Café São João pela refeição maravilhosa que tive recentemente. Fui recebida calorosamente por uma equipa simpática e acolhedora, que me fez sentir em casa desde o momento em que entrei. A comida foi simplesmente divinal!

As sardinhas assadas estavam perfeitamente temperadas e suculentas. A sangria era refrescante e tinha o equilíbrio perfeito de sabores. A salada de polvo estava incrivelmente fresca e saborosa. E as sobremesas... Ah, o pijama de sobremesas! Fiquei encantada com a variedade e a apresentação cuidadosa de cada uma delas. Cada colherada era uma explosão de sabores deliciosos.

Além da comida incrível, o Café São João também possui uma história rica e interessante. Fiquei encantada ao saber que o estabelecimento é uma casa de 5 gerações, transmitindo tradições e paixão pela culinária de forma tão autêntica. É um lugar simples, com um ambiente descontraído e um ar de férias. A equipa foi excepcional em tornar a minha experiência e dos meus acompanhantes memorável, com sorrisos sinceros e um serviço impecável.
