Obelix Hamburgueria — Restaurant in Aveiro

We read about this place and walked by on Monday, forgetting they were closed . We went back today for our mid-day meal and so glad we did. The proprietor was delightful, shared his knowledge of wine and wine making. The atmosphere was like a French bistro and he spoke, French, English and Portuguese. Now, we wanted a change from traditional Portuguese cooking and the burgers were excellent! Fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. We started with crudités of light aioli and toasts, he recommended a regional Red wine (by the glass) it was yummy and then we had the chicken and beef burgers with fries. Wonder where the truth of written reviews stand, but today, I’ve had an extremely unpleasant surprise in respect of how a potential client got treated… harsh words, absolutely non-sympathetic attitude from an employee (gentleman), and much to my unsatisfaction I was told that the place still needed to be cleaned and the tables suitably prepared. This started around 12:10 hrs, despite Google saying ‘open’… The room looks too dark, and cleaning level appeared poor. Tucked away on a quiet street - this small restaurant serves up the BEST hamburgers in Aveiro! No question. The owner is gracious and speaks, English, French and Portuguese. The food is served HOT - which is not always the case here in Portugal. The entire menu is stellar.
