Restaurante A Capelinha do Monte — Restaurant in Caldas da Rainha

We entered the restaurant with high hopes and got rewarded. The space is decorated in a very open and franc fashion. As we enter our eyes immediately find a niche on the wall, where a half a dozen wine bottles carefully hint the owners good taste. We are seated in simple tables, but well presented. The waiter helps us choose and reads our minds by suggesting dishes and portion, without overselling. The menu is vast enough, and also includes day specials, including fresh fish. For starters we are presented with a basket filled with cheese, and hams. Delicious. While some of us had a traditional "cozido", other choose the acclaimed garlic steak. We choose to drink local wine and were delighted with these choices. Both dishes were well executed, and delicious. For desert I recommend a locally done chocolate mousse. I find the price range adequate, with average portion price of 9~10€. Tip: do not arrive late as the restaurant quickly becomes crowded. My mum (who speaks Portuguese, I don’t) brought me for weekday lunch here. It’s a popular family-run place. The food was excellent. We had two plates from the daily specials menu: the cabidela de gallinha (chicken with rice mixed up with black pudding) and roasted salmon. Both delicious. The chicken dish is clearly a restaurant delicacy, as nearly everyone was eating it. The food was delicious, the service was professional, and the atmosphere warm on a chilly afternoon. We arrived after a group of 17, so the various fish of the day dishes were sold out, but our beef and turkey steaks we're large and well prepared.
