I was on a scouting trip for housing in Espinho and wanted something simple for lunch. The hamburger place hotel staff recommended was closed so I wandered down the boardwalk and came across Golfinho's. I sat in the outdoor area, there were only a few tables occupied and four waiters, so not very busy. I ordered soup and a well done hamburger with cheese. When the order was brought out, a small plate of fries was also included. I should have tasted the fries before dousing with ketchup as they were cold and limp. I ate maybe two of them before pushing away. The hamburger had ham on it, but it was easily picked off. However, the middle of the burger was still pretty pink. Being hungry, I scraped out the pink part (it's a me thing) and pretty much finished the rest. I asked for the check from the young man who picked up the plates (not the same person who took the order), and when he brought it too me it included a charge for the fries. I told him I did not order the fries while giving him cash for the bill. When he went to get my change he spoke to the older gentleman who took my order. He returned with my change and the receipt, it still included the charge for the fries, and the young man said 'sorry about the fries.' But, apparently not sorry enough to take them off the bill. I have never in my life left a restaurant without leaving a tip, having put myself through college as a server. But not once did anyone check to see if everything was okay. The young man offered coffee but not dessert. I get that this is a beach place for mostly one-time tourist, but as a soon-to-be local, I will never come back here nor bring any guests. There are literally dozens of places to eat near or on the beach. Steer clear...
Read moreAmazing location that faces ocean and is very close to the hotel were we stayed. We had high expectations for this place however been very disappointed. Prices far too high, when we came we thought we will get adequate service and food quality. However waitresses were disorganised and disoriented served us with one dish( my partner started to eat it) and been interrupted as waitress brought another plate of fish saying that was the right, we were very confused by this kind of behaviour, before that brought soup that we even didn't order. Roasted octopus with roasted potatoes (25 euro) i have ordered came oversalted impossible to eat, with tasteless garnish, cod fish came ovesalted as well. For the record tried octopus in Portugal before and not only and know how it should taste when cooked to perfection. We paid 71 euro total but food was barely touched as it tasted horrible. Its is not what you expect from highly scoured restaurant located by the ocean in Portugal ordering sea food. I never put feedback or reviews on restaurants and food we tried however this time i had to do it as food ruined my mood and evening as I really was looking forward to enjoy my plate of octopus. I wouldn't...
Read moreA fantastic location with lovely views of the sea, a fabulous fully glazed dining area with helpful and attentive serving staff. But there the positive points end because unfortunately the kitchen staff let this place down since the food is average. On a recent visit I had clams to start and they were a little too salty followed by a grilled sole that was practically tasteless and accompanied with mashed vegetables (mostly cabbage) with the unusual addition of slices of raw tomato. This place has 5-star potential if they get the kitchen...
