Very poor food and service at Beira Calhau despite nice building. Go to Barra Azul 50m towards Funchal instead (tried both) despite its less appealing appearance. Barra Azul has much better food and service at a lower price.
27.11.2022: Barely noticed by waiter, who let neighbouring guests (!) tell us that he couldn't speak English, so we had to wait for another one. Got menus and ordered, fair enough. Then I seeked another waiter's attention to get towels due to the chill. She looked on her phone and ignored me. Twice. The third time she replied, grumpy as f*. I paid since the waitress said without doubting that that gamba weights 150g. No apologies at all. Is it a scam? Anyway we forgot something at the table and they came behind us and brought it to us, so there is good people...
