By The Sea restaurant — Restaurant in Funchal

I've been there yesterday after high recommendations from locals... They clearly are relatives of the owners, or perhaps they have 2 tier servings - one for people from here and another to others... They actually charged me €16.50 for a bottle of sub standard sharp acidic local wine and €4.60 for a minute salad. And €2.70 for a small bottle of water...I was speechless when I saw the bill.... We shared a main meal which was entitled "Espada à Camarão. We assumed this would be with prawns. Unfortunately it was cut to resemble prawns and then fried in batter. Oh dear . Never again.... Fresh seafood restaurant. Very helptful Service that will Show all seafood in the theirs freezer and walk you through available serving options. The place is small with small kitchen that you can see how things are prepared. Its nice experience and something new for us. It was totalny worth comming here to visit... And about the food itself... all is fresh. About the taste ... its easly the best octopus I've ever had (octopus hot serving version) - bravo for the cook !!! - it was delicuous ... totally worth trying for me. Went here recently and was met with zero hospitality. The whole place smells funky and not a good atmosphere. We were hoping the food would be good and ordered something, trying to not let the rude waitress and weird men lurking about the restaurant bother us. The food arrived and it had zero flavour - not even any salt. They just cooked the meat/fish in oil and put it on a plate. They don’t have any serving sauces either. The worst meal I’ve ever had! I threw up a bit in my mouth, it was that bad! In the end we just paid and left and didn’t eat our food. Costed a lot of money for the few dishes we ordered too! Complete waste!
