Pizzaria Antica Roma — Restaurant in Funchal

Stopped in for a bite after a long days hike. Their was some people smoking on the patio so we sat inside. The space is ok , but the overhead lights are pretty bright. A little distracting. We ordered the calamari and a couple of pizzas with the a bottle of the house red. Actually found the wine to be pretty good for house wine. The calamari was ok. Had a fairly thick batter on it. Both pizzas were tasty. Crust is a little heavier than I like , but was ok. Someone had previously mentioned about the prosciutto not being prosciutto. They are correct. The menu says prosciutto, but the description says fiambre which is ham. It's definitely a misrepresentation. Nowhere in Portugal is fiambre mistaken for prosciutto. That needs to...

Great pizza, fresh toppings and a nice crust, friendly service. Very hospitable even when we came in near closing time.

Staff was a bit confused at first, with one telling us we couldn’t order, then another coming and correcting saying we could do take out with limited menu options, and a third saying we could order whatever we wanted and dine in if we chose.

Ate here a few nights ago. Came back to make this review now to express my appreciation after having a terrible experience with another pizza spot nearby.

This is becoming a favorite local dining spot as I live 3 minutes away. Well priced, non-touristy, locally owned and well prepared food. Frequently I end up in conversation with the owner and/or his wife, then hang on even longer for one or more glasses of wine. Free parking is abundant. This spot is exactly what I love about Madeira - well, this and a thousand other things of course. My star rating is for eateries in this...
