Doca do Cavacas restaurant is split on 2 levels and both share the same stunning 270°panoramic views of homes with gardens, banana terraces to over hanging cliffs, beach & sea. Very spectacular!
It's definitely worth climbing down those steps. As it is nestled directly above the natural tidal rock pools, with superb view of the popular 'praia Formosa' beach and the hanging cliffs. One, of many exclusive points, dotted around the island.

THE UPPER OUTSIDE TERRACE: At 1st appearance - nothing special?. It's just tables, chairs and umbrella's for most 2,4,6 seater.Vital to direct views in either direction and 'soonest' adding table cloths will enhance the experience even more so - mng?.For the sun lovers like myself, there are a few unshaded tables. Choices are soonest determined by the sun's movement. ▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
THE LOWER ROOM: With medium high open sliding windows that allow for a sea breeze, flowing curtains, fishing nets, buoys, anchors, reef amongst its decor - all add to its charm. And the fish tank is a clear beacon, that live lunch is very near!
Lunch started with white wine, local 'lapas' limpets & grilled prawns in a rich tomato chillie sauce, which was delicious to dip the Portuguese bread into. Followed by the grilled fish of the day best enjoyed with olive oil & lemon juice. And naturally, salad & boiled vegetables. And yes, more white wine.Staff are friendly & pay attention to your need as we pondered onto sweets.
Pointers: ☆This restaurant is very popular during the summer. So reservation advisable! ☆For the handicapped the ramp is very steep alongside the many, many steps. ☆Ample outside parking or inside carpark (hot days) above the stair ramp on the main entrance road. ☆ Clean toilets, cash & CC accepted

Read moreUnfortunately our experiences at this location were nowhere near as satisfying as some of the previous recommendations. We were attracted by the location and watched a wonderful sunset on the terrace while waiting and waiting for our food. Having asked particularly whether the dishes we chose were gluten-free we were more than surprised when four slices of white bread and two packaged butters were placed on our table. For the next 40 minutes we continued to enjoy the sunset and hope the next set of plates would bring our food, but although the neighbouring tables received their food and desserts and coffee we sat there empty handed and feeling thoroughly neglected. When the table of six received their main courses, there seemed to be some mix up with the dishes and all of a sudden one of our orders appeared. The second dish was promised and appeared after some discussion between the staff. This plate contained a warm mixed skewer. The other plate was supposedly grilled scabbard fish but was completely different in appearance and taste to the fish we had experienced the day before and on one occasion since. Although we pointed this out the waitress was insistent that this was the fish we had ordered. The side dishes were stone cold sweet potatoes, tasteless cabbage, potatoes and carrots. Our disappointment was compounded by the fact that no attempt was made to rectify the situation and that after our dissatisfaction was apparent we had to wait unusually long after paying before we received our change. We cannot recommend this destination. We were not treated as guests as in so many other restaurants during our stay...
Read moreI recently visited Doca do Cavacas restaurant and had a mixed experience. While the food and service were truly exceptional, there were a few areas that could use improvement.
The standout feature of this restaurant is undoubtedly the incredible view. The stunning scenery provided an unforgettable backdrop to the dining experience, creating an ambiance that's hard to beat.
However, the cleanliness of the establishment left something to be desired. It's unfortunate that such a crucial aspect of maintaining a pleasant atmosphere was not up to par. This aspect could certainly be improved upon.
On a positive note, the food was delicious and the service was truly 5-star. The staff's attentiveness and friendliness were commendable, and they added greatly to the overall experience.
One important aspect to note is that the accessibility might not be ideal for everyone. The location may present challenges for those with mobility difficulties or those using crutches or wheelchairs. This could be a concern for some potential customers.
In summary, while Doca do Cavacas offers fantastic food, top-notch service, and a breathtaking view, there's room for improvement in terms of cleanliness and accessibility. It's a place that could reach even greater heights with a bit of attention to...
