Island WOK — Restaurant in Funchal

A nice disappointment! Communication was hard because the staff didn’t know how to speak English. I went there with my friend and it started when we asked them to separate our grill dishes but they always mixed it up and brought it back together as one dish for both of us which made it hard to remember what we actually chose to eat. Every time i tried to ask for something it was very hard so eventually i gave up.

The last straw was when we went to have our last round. They cleared our table including the Cola cans which were unfinished and our half filled glasses because the staff thought we were finished. We asked them why that happened because apparently we didn’t even go to pay our bill at the cashier but somehow they made the conclusion that we were finished!! Anyway we asked them to bring back our drinks they refused and said you finished it which wasn’t the case. They made us look like liars over such a stupid thing. Eventually they agreed to give us one can of Cola to share between us!!! That was so weird and a big sign of not caring about customers or their business.

Me and my friend left our table for another round. When we went to our table everything was gone. This isn’t directly an issue because mistakes can happen. But our drinks were gone as well. Drinks we payed for. We told the staff that we still had drinks left, but they didn’t believe us! One of the staff members was telling us that we didn’t have much drinks left, which was not true. The staff was reluctant about the problem and made us feel like liars. In the end they gave us one can of coke to compensate our drinks. They tried to fix the problem, but it was a bad attempt and not customer friendly at all.

We also asked them many times to separate our portions of food, but they kept on putting everything together. But this could be their lack of English.

The food was tasteless and nothing special. There are many better options available...

Lovely place! We didn’t have many expectations as it didn’t have many reviews, I believe that’s because their place just recently opened. Everything exceeded our expectations! Sushi buffet is great - we love sushi and we were happy with the available variety. To our surprise, there were a lot of options available besides sushi - salads, meat that they grilled specifically for you, noodles, fries, fried chicken, and more, you name it. Great for kids or people who don’t like sushi. Paid around 37€ for two people during dinner time including 2 drinks. Highly recommend, we left this restaurant absolutely very satisfied and with full bellies. For anyone who is going there with a car, we parked at Forum Madeira shopping mall underground parking and paid 0,45€ for an hour and half. It’s 5 minutes away from...
