We've just spent 5 nights at the Regency and wished we'd stayed longer, it was amazing. Where do u start? The hotel sits on a cliff edge with one entrance from the street and a sheer drop at the rear overlooking the Lido.(which you pay a small price). Receptionists all very polite and always spoke when u walked through. We had an upgrade so we found the room (107), drew the curtains back and wow wot a view. We were overlooking the pool with views down the coast towards funchal. Can I just say the sunrise each morning was beautiful. The reception, lounge, bar, gardens and the breakfast terrace are all on the top floor, (Street level) with all the rooms below. The two pools, gym, sauna, etc are 5 floors down. You have breakfast on the upper terrace whith great views and would u believe it a man with a falcon who scares the pigeons away etc. If he's not about don't leave any bread rolls out because the seagulls will obliterate your table as we witnessed. Carlos the waiter was funny and always very helpful.Don't forget to pre order your eggs! There was plenty to eat with hot food, juices, cereal, yoghurts, cold meat, cakes and all sorts of bread at hand. We even made rolls up for lunchtime, The hotel is adult only so it's a nice quiet atmosphere. There is happy hour each nite around 6 in the really modern bar lounge area and the cocktails and bacardi especially good. The staff tend to work on different things but there is a bell and they come running when needed. The hotel is really compact and Maria's always about to help. The small shuttle bus is on hand if u want to go to Funchal, just book your place. The last pick up is at 5, one thing to watch is that they may send a taxi to pick u up instead of sending the bus. If you decide to walk down to Funchal you can go via the Lido, along the bottom path, admiring the coast, the hotels, cafe-bars, restaurants and if your b and b it gives u ideas on where to eat. There's mainly Italian and Indian food to be had in newly built restaurants and that was great for us. Do your research before u go. The top road is quicker to Funchal but it is NOT a 15 minute walk unless your very fast and fit, its a good 45 min but its all very interesting. The buses are good and run frequently and cheap. Hop on a number 1or 2 outside the hotel, so easy. Drop in at the park above the marina and watch the cruise ships. The manager made herself known and was very nice and always at hand as was all the staff. The hotel had a lot of elderly guests with walking difficulties and unless your fit or on a tour there's no way u could cope with the hilly terrain around this hotel. Overall the hotel was modern in a new area, clean, great staff, great views, big bedrooms but only twin beds and we can't...
Read moreI stayed at the Regency Cliff recently with Titan Holidays and the hotel really was a delight. |It’s only small and it certainly isn’t “corporate” but it has soul, real Madeiran care and service. It’s not the most modern place I’ve stayed and the gym and pools are “bijou” but the staff made my stay perfect.|I was travelling solo and was given a good size twin room on the third floor. I queried whether it was possible to have the beds made up as a double the following day. No waiting until tomorrow, it was done immediately, and with a smile. |I have some dietary issues which I had obviously advised Titan about. Every evening one of the friendly waiters took my dinner order for the following night. My meal was then served to me at the table. No risk of cross contamination at the buffet, no guesswork about what I was eating, just lovely meals, chosen from the menu and created safely for me. I cannot think of another hotel that has managed this so smoothly, professionally, accurately and with such charm. |I recommend the Regency Cliff most highly. It’s about three miles to the centre of Funchal, a very pleasant walk, but also on a bus route and with taxis and Bolt nearby. |A shorter walk along the coast path brings you to Praia Formosa. |The wide views from the rooms, restaurant and terrace are out over the sea and saw both the sunrise and the sunset daily. |The bar makes the most wonderful cocktails. |But most of all it’s the staff who make it their aim to ensure your stay is wonderful. And mine definitely...
Read moreThis is a very small personable hotel of only 59 rooms. It's only the bottom part (6 floors) of the building it occupies which looks a bit like apartments that are nothing to do with the hotel and to be fair look like they need a bit of TLC! That's not the same for the hotel! Staff are friendly and helpful and it's a small team. Breakfast buffet has plenty of hot and cold options which should cover all tastes? The tables are available inside and out on the roof which offers a lovely view in the morning sun. Guests are expected to wear plastic gloves while using the buffet which are provided. The position of the hotel is not surprisingly on the cliff, overlooking the sea and a public lido (5.20 Euro entry for the day) but you are still a little back from the sea without sny direct access to it? There is a little snicket out of the back of the hotel giving access to the paths along the sea front and the lido. Didn't have any problems getting sunbeds on the sundeck. The indoor and outdoor pools are small as others have mentioned. Lots of fab restaurants close by which is probably one of the reasons you will come here. Superior rooms are spacious. Beds all have toppers so are quite comfy. Don't want to pay the earth to stay in Funchal in a smaller hotel that will fullfil your requirements, look no further. Room choice. The superior rooms with the best view of Funchal can be cooler on your balcony in the afternoon when the sun has...
