We landed in Madeira late afternoon and we had got our car rental and checked into our airbnb. It took a long time and our group was very hungry and really craving some authentic flavours of food. We were so happy to give Hoyo Hoyo a try based on a tiktok review we had seen. The store was closing at 10:30 and we got there for 10:05. The owner was extremely nice and welcoming and was so happy to have us seated so he can cook for us. When i tell you this was probably the best chicken i had, I am not lying. The Piri Piri was the perfect dish. Some of the best chicken and flavours our group ever had, the owner kept bringing us more as we couldn’t stop ordering it. Also tried the prawn curry which was just as amazing. Everything had a perfect kick to it (it was spicy but we are Tamil so we can handle our spice no problem) He was so enthusiastic and happy to see us eating his food with a smile. Genuine experience and highly recommend this place. If he was to open in Toronto, his lines would be out the door, no...
Read moreI really enjoyed the dumplings. Althrough their pricing is misleading. They sell "dumplings" as 1.5e in their menu, but if you order it you will get 2 pieces and they charge you 3e total for them. Why not put the price as 3 euro into the menu instead? It's dodgy. Same for ordering main meal. The curry is for 8 euro but I wasn't sure if I will pay for side dish or if it's included, and indeed I paid for the side dish aswell. Dodgy and customer unfriendly practise to make us pay more. The "coconut rice" didn't have any coconut features about it, it was just an ordinary rice priced riddiculously high. The chicken curry wasn't special in anything. I would make such curry easily and I'm not a chef by any means. Cooking is not even my hobby. Very simple, but too expensive for its simplicity. Definitely overpriced dish. The dumplings were by far the best, but I have to give 2 stars for very mediocore and expensive curry and...
Read moreI will start on a positive note and say that the food is not bad. But what makes me very upset is that I read the reviews and for people to say that this was the best food in Madeira is a lie or they have not eaten at many establishments. I was born in Africa eaten chicken in Mozambique, this chicken is not what I had in Mozambique, rather just warmed up on a gas griller, and the fact they charge you €13 for a half chicken is a rip-off. Go to Frango Guaii € 14,50 for a whole chicken done on coals that is proper. Dishes are small we left hungry and at €96 for two people is total rip-off. I do not like to give negative feedback but when reviews are not true I get upset. I also know that the restaurant industry is hard work. I will not even mention how nasty the lady owner was to our waiter so sad to witness. Please respect those that work so hard for you while you concentrate on...
