Urban restaurant — Restaurant in Lagos

While I am reluctant to post something negative about a new business, the food was not acceptable. We did a walk-in, because the owner doesn't check the online booking offered on this site. Our server suggested we call in future, oh the number listed is for the booking company, they don't answer either. Try: +351 282 798 321 instead, it does ring in the restaurant, I checked.

It wasn't busy for a Friday night, there were spaces outside, but we were shown to an indoor table. The interior is bright, clean and modern, but I'd recommend they turn off the television. They have obviously spent money on making it pleasant inside, which is was.

We weren't made aware of 'today's specials', otherwise we would have ordered differently. Our steaks were not good, I'm guessing a long rib/stewing steak cut, but certainly not the quality advertised. 'Medium rare' was very rare, it really needed another two minutes and at least a minute longer to rest. This made little sense as the food was very late to the table anyway. I hope this is an isolated problem because this restaurant is in a prime location and should be an absolute goldmine for any owner (with a little common sense). The cost was low, but we'd have been happy to pay more if the food had been even...

I have lived near the Urban restaurant for many years and through its different ownership. I have always considered it spotty. The last time I went I really enjoyed my meal. I went back tonight, hoping to have the same experience, but tonight, the chicken was so dry that I needed and asked for extra gravy. When the bill came, I was surprised to see they charged 4 euros for extra sauce. I explained that it was necessary because the chicken was so terribly dry. But I was told that my meal had been served to me with an adequate amount of sauce, and they would be charging me for the extra sauce. The predominant flavor of the meal was salt and more salt, and it was stifling hot in the restaurant. (I think they turned the air conditioning on after I said something), but altogether an unpleasant experience. I wish this restaurant could get it right because they are quite convenient for me. But after tonight and the very unpleasant and rude attitude, I can't give them any...

Updated review in light of a more recent visit and sadly standards have dropped. The fish n chips was sadly disappointing, extremely salty and compared to everyone else in the restaurant I was given a very small portion of fish. After the initial surprise wondering where my meal was I tasted it and was glad I didn't have more. Service wasn't great either, there were a few members of staff 'waiting on' but it was slow and everything seemed like too much trouble. I'd eaten all I wanted of my meal before the condiments which had been requested finally arrived (the sauce bottles were empty as well). The house wine had 'run out' and we had to request the bill more than once. My double coffee tasted more like a single that had water added to it than two espressos. Still worthy of 3 stars as the staff were friendly if inept and the prices reasonable although the quality is far less than...
