Absolute highlight of our trip to Lisbon. Found this gem through google searching looking for an evening of Fado. The night started with witnessing Diogo, the chef/manager/owner/Fado guitarist (yes he does it all), speak four different languages to the guests of the evening (French, English, Spanish, Portuguese). Diogo had a phenomenal pre-fixe coursed menu for us with unlimited wine/sparkling water throughout. The fado group played in between courses to keep your attention and pass the time. The music was phenomenal and the atmosphere of the small dining room added to the emotion of the music. They took breaks so we could continue our meal but then re-emerged for another round of music. The food was spectacular. The sea bream was as fresh as they come and my girlfriend's steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection. I would have been happy with this meal at a michelin star. The chef's recipe for a pumpkin jam on cheescake to end the night was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. As the meal finished and the night went on the fado group added members and were just playing as they would with there friends. Truly unforgettable. Everyone should experience Canto do Poeta during their stay, but unfortunately for the size only the lucky few will. Reserve...
Read morea bit of a unique experience here. we got literally a last minute booking in here , we were told it was a 55euro set menu with wine and FADO included.. yes ok let's go for it. we arrived. we were seated next to a local couple, luckily we both used different languages so our domestic dramas and theirs were kept secret. but....it was a little bit awkward. then we were told because of the time order main course only...ordered steak. then lights out. doors shut Fado started.the lovely local soup arrived in almost darkness. Two Fado singers were brilliant and emotional.guitar players top of the game. but....then the steak arrived...darkness and silence once again. eating great tasty steak in darkness. and wine which seemed to be request only. in the end the fado singers were well worth it but the restaurant timing and set up could be better. the restaurant should in retrospect have refused our late entry so we did not have to eat in darkness and silence . I would do it again but I would never do a last minute booking. overall a fantastic experience but get...
Read moreWe booked a table here days in advance and we were really excited to experience live fado. But what we didn’t expect made us leave in the middle of the whole dinner.. the place is downstairs, in a basement, extremely small and about 30 people were shoved in here. Outrageous. Where we were sitting, even when the waiter would pass, we would have to stand up. Our elbows were touching at all points with the elbows of the people from the tables around.. we could not talk as it felt we’d talk with the whole restaurant. There was a group of about 15 American tourist that were made as the center of the whole event and within minutes they were already drunk, making so much noise and being disrespectful.. as much as I understand that the staff, the manager cannot control who comes, but they can control how many people are allowed per night! And ooomg there was no air! It’s hot, it’s summer and having nothing in such a small place.. torture! We left in the middle of the evening. We regret going...
