Bambi — Restaurant in Loulé

My wife, baby and I spent a week in Quarteira and this is our favorite restaurant. They seem to be called snack-bars around town, but there's nothing 'snack' about the food in Bambi. The portions are big and the food is delicious. The place doesn't look like much from outside, but the staff were friendly and the food is simply amazing. We were blown away by the fried prawns, which we shared as a starter for dinner. I had the octopus salad, which was spectacular, as it includes fruit as well, a nice combination of flavors. My wife had the pepper bitoque (thin beef fillet covered in pepper sauce). Both of these items are on their daily menu list. For €11 you get the main meal, a drink, which includes alcohol (I had a generous amount of the house white), a dessert AND a coffee. Their chocolate cake was moist and delicious. Nothing we tried had any faults. The next day we went there again for lunch with friends and the waitress said they were out of octopus salad and fried prawn, which was a sign that they don't freeze their seafood, but wait for fresh ingredients, which is a good...

We have eaten here a few times in the two years we’ve stayed in the area. It’s a local, basic restaurant and it really depends on what you order. Also you have to have limited expectations because it’s very affordable and definitely a value. On our most recent visit we ordered two set menu options—one grilled swordfish steak; and one swordfish fillet grilled (with bones). The steak was kind of plain and a little dry but the fillet was very tasty (garlic and herbs) and very moist. The house wine is average. We don’t eat sweets so didn’t eat dessert. Stumbled across this on our first night, couldn't believe the price, 11 euros, so expectations weren't high. We had the bread and olives, with half a carafe of wine and a bottle of water, then l had the sea bream with potatoes and salad and my husband had the mixed meat with chips and salad. Both meals were excellent my husband had orange cake and I had the pudim flan, again very good and 2 white coffees.
