My husband and I were wandering around Loulé, looking for a fun place to eat lunch outside. We looked down a small street, and immediately remembered eating with friends at O Chafariz last time we were in Loulé. I am vegan, but Natalie, the chef/co-owner, was amazing, and made me the best toasted sandwich I can remember having in ages! Friendly service, but the worst food I had in Portugal. The fish tapas tasted just like canned food and the french fries tasted refried. Update: After we paid, the waiter noticed that I hadn't eaten much of my tapas, and asked me about it. He seemed angry at me and was confrontational. In his mind I was at fault for not enjoying that food. He said that I should have "opened my mouth" and explained what I like while ordering and that he could "not read my mind". Really lovely family owned place! The food is great and affordable and the atmosphere is very welcoming! Owner is a wonderful and vibrant woman who speaks fluent English and provides excellent friendly customer service!
