Brasão Leça — Restaurant in Matosinhos

We had the most wonderful dinner experience, just around the corner from our Airbnb in Matosinhos. Open just two days…Brasão Leca felt like a Mediterranean cousin of Tulum, Mexico - with winning flavors in every bite, and a great playlist.

Our hip server, Ari, was kind and patient, as we are new to Portugal; having moved here from the U.S. with our family of five. It was nice to have the menu in both Portuguese and English (for practice + backup). ☺️

Reservations at 9:00 were right on time, and we loved the bohemian lamplight at our table.

Drinks: Sparkling water Coca-Cola Frozen Margeurita {chilled + icy}

Couvert Bread portion, smoked ham butter, olives + capers {divine}

Goat cheese salad with honey + walnuts {plenty for 2} - cannot say enough good things. Will be back just for this salad.

Sliced tenderloin {2 persons} - perfectly seasoned and such a treat *cooked medium Served with the most delightful orange salad with finely sliced red onion + chips. We added a yummy side of sautéed greens. Just right.

Capped our anniversary evening with espressos + cheese pudding. Suggested by our server and a creamy delight. The dusted, mini chocolate ball with the espresso was quite the surprise.

The kind hostess, Maria, joined us in awe of the menu as we were wrapping up, and encouraged us to try the romaine lettuce salad plus roast beef and the chocolate + pistachio dessert, upon our next visit. We have two more weeks in this area of Portugal…and will definitely return.

O Restaurante Brasão é uma referência na cena gastronômica do Porto, conhecido pela qualidade dos seus salgados e, claro, pela tradicional francesinha.

A refeição foi, em geral, agradável, mas alguns aspectos poderiam ser aprimorados para tornar a experiência ainda mais memorável.

A chegada foi organizada, com a reserva conforme esperado. No entanto, a mesa inicialmente atribuída não era das mais confortáveis. Felizmente, a equipa foi atenciosa e prontamente fez a troca, o que melhorou a experiência. O serviço foi simpático e esforçado, apesar de alguns pequenos erros ao longo da refeição.

Quanto à comida, o rissol de carne, cogumelos e trufa é uma verdadeira delícia – com um recheio saboroso e equilibrado, provavelmente um dos melhores que já experimentei. O rissol de enchidos, por sua vez, revelou-se bastante picante, o que o torna uma excelente escolha para os apreciadores de sabores mais intensos, embora possa não agradar a todos os paladares. O croquete de camarão é igualmente excelente, com um sabor muito agradável e uma fritura crocante no ponto certo.

A francesinha, um dos pratos mais icónicos do menu, foi uma escolha segura. O bife estava tenro, e os enchidos, apesar de serem de boa qualidade, não se sobressaíram. O molho é bom, mas não considero uma das melhores versões da cidade. As batatas fritas caseiras estavam bem confeccionadas – crocantes e saborosas.

A sobremesa, o pastel de nata WTF, apresentou uma massa folhada excelente – fina, crocante e muito saborosa. O creme desiludiu um pouco, achei demasiado doce e pouco fiel ao sabor clássico. Em suma, é uma sobremesa mediana, a bola de gelado ajuda a quebrar um pouco o excesso do doce. (Aconselho a partilharem visto que poderá tornar-se um pouco enjoativa).

Em termos de preço, o valor praticado está adequado à qualidade da experiência oferecida. No entanto, dado o prestígio do restaurante, seria interessante ver um serviço mais refinado e uma maior consistência na experiência gastronómica...

Amazing food, generous portions & beautiful location!

We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! From the starters to the main dishes, everything was super tasty and the portions were impressively large. The setting right by the Atlantic Ocean made the whole meal feel like a special moment.

We especially loved the rosé sangria, fresh, fruity, and perfectly balanced. The service was quick and friendly, and we ended the meal with a delicious lemon tart that we highly recommend!

We enjoyed it so much that we’re already planning to visit another branch on the second day of our short trip. A truly lovely experience, definitely...
