I had the pleasure of dining at Fava Tonka, and I must say, it was an extraordinary culinary experience. From the moment I stepped foot into the restaurant, I was greeted by an inviting ambiance and the warm hospitality of the staff. However, it was the exceptional cuisine and the passion of the owner, Catia, that truly made this dining experience stand out.
Fava Tonka boasts a menu that celebrates creativity, flavors, and quality ingredients. Each dish I had the pleasure of savoring was a work of art, meticulously crafted and bursting with taste. The menu showcases a vegetarian delightful fusion of local and international flavors, with a strong emphasis on freshness and seasonality.
Catia's dedication to her craft is evident in every aspect of Fava Tonka. From the thoughtful presentation of each dish to the careful selection of ingredients, it's clear that she pours her heart and soul into her restaurant.
The restaurant itself is tastefully decorated, providing an elegant and comfortable atmosphere. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for a memorable dining experience, Fava Tonka is the place to be. The attention to detail in the interior design and the soothing ambiance create an inviting space that complements the culinary journey.
In conclusion, Fava Tonka, led by the talented owner Catia, exceeded all my expectations. The combination of exceptional vegetarian cuisine, warm hospitality, and Catia's dedication to her craft make this restaurant a true gem. I highly recommend Fava Tonka to anyone seeking a remarkable dining experience filled with unique flavors and...
Read moreDespite being such a small country, Portugal seems to be at the forefront of the vegetarian modern casual/fine dining scene, with restaurants like @senhor.uva , @arkherestaurante , @seiva.restaurante kicking up a storm and on an even more high profile scale, @encanto_joseavillez by @joseavillez recently picking up a new star from the @michelinguide
We had one night in Porto on our way back south and after a week filled with meat, we had our hearts set on something a little different. Along came @favatonkapt which has been on my hit list for a while, set in a quiet area of Matosinhos. A new seasonal menu (recently launched) filled with rich rooty goodness. Highlights for us were the wild mushroom pie, served with a really meaty stout sauce... and the Cauliflower with nori weed & ajo blanco, finishing with a gorgeous seasonal pud of apple fennel and lemon.
@nunomdcastro has done at Fava Tonka what so many vegetarian restaurants fail to do, which is to fool your palate and make you forget that you are in a vegetarian restaurant. Bloody impressive and another one to recommend if you fancy something different in Porto.
The service and atmosphere were wonderful. Couldn't have asked for a more pleasant evening.

Read moreWe were clearly let down by the food after all the hype. There's clearly too much “experimentation” with the food going around, and the prices are absurdly high for what you are being served.
The plates, although very well presented, simply didn't match correctly the flavors. The “smoked” mushrooms actually tasted like burnt mushrooms, the dessert flavors didn't match (we had the one with cauliflower) and the cabbage in one of the dishes was almost raw.
For this bad experience, we (2 people) paid €74, and we didn't even drink wine.
We then got sick for a couple of days due to the food, because, as one should expect, humans aren't meat to be eating stuff like raw cabbage.
The real positive side was the staff. Everyone was nice, attentive, and...
