I will write this review in English so non Portuguese speaking can also read it. It makes me sad that I come to my own country on vacation and realise how much tourists, as myself, get robbed in food. To start they bring to the table starters that you never ask and the price for the really tiny portions it's just outrageous. We've paid as much for 3 tiny starters and bit of bread and butter as a main dish price. We paid 60€ for a dinner of 2 and we do not drink alcohol. For the mains we had octopus and codfish both " à Lagareiro" but there was nothing à lagareiro about it. The olive oil could have been just frying oil cause I couldn't taste olive oil at all and the chef must have run out of garlic cause there was none and not even the taste of it. The octupus looked only boiled in water and not finished from oven as it should from this recipe. Now I've seen in all in many restaurants but never was I served one (1) single leg of octopus as a main dish, this is just the top of top of robberies. The codfish as dry as the fish the ladies are drying in the sun, I could only eat the thicker part of it cause the thiner was just so dry not even the oil in the plate could save it. And all very bland without any taste. I was never so disappointed finishing a meal of food I love and was...
Read moreHi, couple from Australia here. We happened upon this place when the restaurant we were looking for was closed. Turned out to be a very happy accident!
We had one of the best meals of our trip to Portugal, a stunning piece of steak with salad and a seafood plate of squid and shrimp over potatoes. A delicious bottle of vinho verde recommended by the water topped it off. We normally don’t choose dessert but we had the most amazing crème caramel.
Honestly, the food was to die for and everyone around us really enjoyed their meals. We paid under €70 for all of this for two people. For a nice meal of beautifully cooked steak and seafood in Australia you would pay twice this so we were very happy.
I don’t know what happened to the reviewers who didn’t like this place - perhaps they are trying to keep it a secret for themselves!!
Obviously you can turn down or choose not to eat the starters that are offered to you. We learned this one quite early in our trip to Portugal and assumed it was a common part of...
Read moreWe should have walked away when our order was taken on the street while waiting for a table. A sign things were a bit odd. Regardless, it seemed the food might be good but when we finally got our plates of steaks with shrimp, it was possibly the worse seasoned meat and had a very odd taste from the grill which made us think the grill is being used for fish and meat at the same time without being cleaned. No seasoning, tender but flavourless. Also expensive for what you get. The owner is boisterous and kind, talks a lot and very welcoming but he is better to spend time checking in on what’s happening in the kitchen to make sure the food is actually done properly.
(Edit: typical reply from a business that won’t take responsibility or acknowledge criticism of bad food as you will read in all their responses when criticized. The comment of the owner was lost in translation and was meant as a compliment but instead of reading it that way, they took it as a negative. Fix your attitude and your...
