Mário Peixe — Restaurant in Nazaré

Our visit to this beachside restaurant fell short of expectations. The food, to be frank, wasn't great. The swordfish was tough to eat, and the cuttlefish was subpar. Service didn't improve matters.

We ended up here after a long drive left us hungry, and it felt like a typical tourist spot. The only highlight was the bread.

Main street Nazare was full of restaurants with good food but much higher priced. Decided to explore side streets a bit and came across this place called Mario Peixe.

They have a charcoal grill up front with fresh fish displayed. We took a chance to try it and no regrets.

Ordered the clams. Excellent. Sardines, Sea Bass and Sea Bream, all grilled over the charcoal. Fantastic.

Probably one of the best meals we had in Portugal.

Unfriendly and very silent waiter. The other staff was very friendly and attentive. I‘m not eating meat and fish but usually made the experience that there are other nice options. When I asked them about vegetarian options they gave me plain rice, potatoes and a tomato salad with green, not ripe tomatoes. So I was definitely disappointed.
