Oásis — Restaurant in Odemira

Wow! What an amazing meal! My partner and I had the Seafood Cataplana, and it really was one of the best meals I've had in Portugal, and I have lived here for over a decade. The setting is overlooking the river beach, and the beautiful sunset can be seen from the terrace. We were immediately made to feel at home, the waiter encouraged our limited portuguese, and although he spoke perfect english, it was fun to chat in a fun way with him. The Cataplana consisted of a small Lobster, half a Crab, lots of Prawns, Clams & Mussels cooked in a very rich delicious sauce. The price for this excellent meal was very competitive, and we would not hesitate in returning. Thank you Oasis for a very memorable experience...we...

The Restaurante Oasis was a simple, beach front restaurant on the other side of the river to Vila Nova Milfontes (so if you have a car, it’s just across the bridge). It’s a great, quiet and very simple/ traditional decor with a beautiful view from the decked terrace. We ordered the small octopus salad and sardines for starters and the breaded fish soup & breaded shrimp strew for mains, 3 glasses of wine and one beer (bill today was approx 46€, a bargain for what we ate & drank). Both main meals were super delicious, we probably could have shared one, considering we had starters. The staff were really lovely, and we were able to bring a dog onto the terrace....

Probably the worst meal out we had, service to begin with was slow, when the food turned up, both steaks were over cooked, one was missing an egg, the seafood rice wasn't cooked, the rice was hard and it only had crab and prawns, as the menu stated seafood, or the choice of other rice with different types of seafood, such as octopus, crab, prawns, clams etc so we wrongly assumed this would have more variety, the pork steak was like leather and even with a steak knife was difficult to cut, let alone eat.
