30/9/25 - pre dusk drinks - Quebra Mar
We three middle aged guys from London had had a couple of hours on the beach and explored a bit of the coastline in the afternoon.
We decided to have a drink with view and had seen this place the evening before thinking it was out of our budget range.
On popping in to check prices they seemed reasonable aged the place had a cool Cuban style vibe with generally younger people as the clientele.
All the sunny seats on the surrounding terrace corridor were occupied and we were told the inside tables in the sun were already booked.
We took a table in the shade on the upper terrace and were served by a young keen waiter who brought us the menu. All we wanted was a big beer (although the dark Superbock was not available) and a soft drink which turned out to be hot chocolate.
The restaurant was filling up as dusk approached with people coming on a spec being directed to the shadier unreserved tables. This place obviously needs to be booked.
The drinks came in reasonable time as the waiters were busy seeing to dining customers and the hot chocolate took time to prepare.
The beer glasses arrived full to the brim (the menu specified 55cl!) along with the hot chocolate. The beer was good as was the (very) hot (and tasty) chocolate. We were happy.
The clean windows into the inside restaurant reflected the sunlit beach and houses which was a nice effect.
We were intending to see the sunset on the opposite side of the road dunes but we had plenty of time. The manager was busy on his laptop inside when we arrived but took time to chat to guests. I asked him if he knew Cuba (which we do) and he confirmed he did, hence the vibe.
We paid at the bar, a correct €11, by cash as their machines were down (a chalkboard sign announced this). The attentive waiter saw my coming with €51 and had €40 ready for me in change!
Altogether a pleasant experience at a good price, considering the location, and a pity we did not book for a meal as we were self catering...
