Cantinho dos Sabores — Restaurant in Peniche

Very interesting place especially for local people, not so much for tourists. The premise is that we are Italian but we both speak fluent English, Spanish and French, unfortunately we don't know Portuguese. The waiter understood that we were tourists and spent the time of our stay arrogantly imposing on us to understand his Portuguese and inviting us to speak Portuguese because "if you go to countries abroad you must adapt to the language and culture" (his quote). I don't speak Portuguese but understand it at a basic level, enough to understand that even with our table neighbors he was complaining that we were foreigners. We decided to point this out to his colleague who worked inside the restaurant, asking if we should leave since we were not welcome, despite the fact that we were behaving in a quiet and polite manner. She told us that he was joking but the situation was very unpleasant. Then a dish (salad) didn't arrive and I may have wanted to understand why but unfortunately I didn't understand the language. Even when the waiter brought the dishes and we thanked him saying "thank you" he stopped behind us repeating "obrigado" in an annoyed tone. A must visit for anyone who wants a taste of traditional portuguese cousine and hospitality. We especially recommend the beaf stake for meat lovers as the meat is high quality and comes to your plate directly from the butchery across the street, and for vegetarians we recommend a house salad, which is a wonderful and creative mix of fresh ingredients they find at the kitchen - always a bit dofferent. Great costumer service and value for money is what keeps us coming back over and over again, wheather for a simple couple dinner night our, or for a fun get together...

Lovely surprise, this place is a gem in the heart of Peniche, very good amount of food, great quality for fair prices. The ovos rotos are a full plate with a delicious sauce and everything else, good to share with people!! The bifana had a very homemade taste and the grelhada mista was on point
