Wow! Absolutely the best meal we have had in Madeira. The service was excellent, the waiter was knowledgeable and courteous and always on hand to assist. We chose to sit indoors to avoid any smokers and had a very nice window seat, looking back up the valley. Once seated, we were shown the catch of the day platter and selected Dorada, Parrot Fish and Scabbard Fish. Starters were olives, giant maize and the most delicious garlic bread (Bolo da Caco). We also ordered the steak skewer and a vegetarian Thai curry. The steak skewer arrived first and was neatly removed from the 50cm skewer and plated up. The fish and curry followed shortly after, accompanied with salad, baked sweet potato and chips. The scabbard fish was unbelievable, expertly cooked and light, almost fluffy flesh with a passion fruit sauce that complemented it perfectly. The Dorada was delightful. Again, perfectly cooked and lightly brushed with garlic, herbs and oil. The Parrot Fish did not disappoint as it was also prepared and grilled to perfection. I cannot rate the steak skewer highly enough, it was tender, juicy and full of flavour quite possibly the tastiest steak we have ever had. As a vegetarian option, the Thai curry was very tasty and went down well. We were keen to have dessert and we all felt we could manage a small sweet to finish off the night. We were greeted with the most enormous slices of ferrero rocher and mango cheesecake that nobody thought we would finish but it was so light and fluffy, we destroyed the lot. Amazing service, fantastic value and simply the most delicious food of our stay on Madeira. We were fortunate to only be a 15 minute drive away but I would happily drive from the far end of the island to eat here again. If you visit Madeira and want to eat the best seafood, you must visit Restaurant and Grill Muralha Terrace!

My fiancé and I went around 6pm on a Tuesday and there was no wait. We parked in the parking lot below the restaurant (note they are not associated and do not validate - that said parking was very affordable, 1€ per hour). We were seated outside with a nice ocean view. They come out with a cool display of the catch of the day. Food order: Garlic bread (x2…. It was that good) 1/2 sea bass (catch of the day) 1/2 tuna belly (catch of the day) Sweet potato side Mixed green salad side Drinks: Poncha with orange Poncha with passion fruit Camomile tea Complementary desert: Maderia wine Passion fruit liquor Overall, we aim to try local foods whenever we travel and we got a variety here. The star of the show was the garlic bread. It was absolutely amazing! The fish was also cooked well and came out soft and moist. The tuna belly was salted a little too much but I just paired it with the bread. I did not like the Poncha with orange (very alcoholic tasting) but the passion fruit one was good (smooth taste). We also tried their complementary desert drinks and we were only able to drink a sip before passing on them. There’s a good chance we’ll be back to get a couple more baskets of garlic bread!

Tasty food, very friendly staff and a good location; a place recommended by the locals. The fish of the day is very fresh with price on asking (make sure to ask at first as it varies by the kg of fish, the parrotfish pictured was in excess of €30), with the skin grilled to perfection; probably one of the best grilled fish meals I've had. The meat skewer (not pictured) was very well cooked and a very good portion at a reasonable price. The mussels were okay, not watery, but were a bit too much of a delicate flavour for the garlic butter that unfortunately overwhelmed some of their flavour. The bread and olives are a nice starter to share. It would be a great place to eat outdoors and watch the sunset if you know you're going to get a good one, otherwise bring a jacket, as the sun set we were offered a seat inside, which I'm glad we took. Nice wine selection on offer with a great selection of local drinks, it's definitely a place to come back to more than once!

We came to this restaurant because of the high ratings on Google and had high expectations—but unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing.

Our group came after a round of golf and everyone was very hungry. When the waitress came to take our drink orders, I specifically mentioned, “They’ve just finished golf and are quite hungry—could we order food first and then decide on drinks?” However, she insisted on following her own service routine, which was understandable—but what followed was much harder to accept.

After placing our orders, we waited for more than an hour without receiving a single dish—only three small baskets of bread. Meanwhile, we saw several other tables of two, four, even six guests—who arrived after us—receive their meals one after another, while we continued waiting. It was frustrating and completely killed any excitement we had for the food.

I had ordered the local specialty dish—grilled cod loin with chickpea purée and wild sausage. I even asked the waitress what was in the dish, and although her explanation wasn’t very clear, she said it was delicious and highly recommended. In the end, it never came. Instead, they brought out a curry prawn dish, which I hadn’t ordered. Maybe it was a mistake due to a busy kitchen. I didn’t eat the curry prawns, so I can’t comment on the taste—but I was quite disappointed not to get the dish I was looking forward to.

We also ordered two types of fish (sea bream and sea bass). The sea bream was clearly not fresh.

In the end, we gave up on dessert and just asked for the bill. The waitress seemed surprised and asked what had happened. After we explained our reasons, she kindly offered each of us a complimentary digestif as an apology—which was one of the few warm gestures we appreciated during the evening.

Overall, maybe it was just a bad night or poor coordination in the kitchen—but the experience did not live up to the ratings. Both the service speed and the accuracy of the orders left much to be desired. We hope the restaurant can improve in these areas.

We usually tip generously at restaurants, but this time—for the first time—we...
