Bakery Porta Nova — Restaurant in Tavira

I had to take a break for a while from the situation that happened to me in this cake shop. I ordered a cake for my birthday. A gentleman who spoke English very well wrote down my order where in black and white it says Red Velvet cake, red fruit inside, decorated with NATURAL, REAL FLOWERS. What turned out on the day of collection: the cake was not ‘red’ but ‘white’, there was hardly any fruit inside. THE FLOWERS WERE MADE OF SUGAR, NOT REAL. The gentleman, on the plea that everything had been written down in the order after all, told me that I had said otherwise. The cake soaked in a huge amount of liquid to make it heavy in weight but completely tasteless. The only thing agreed in the order: the mascarpone in the middle. DRAMAT. How this place does not have 5.0 stars is beyond me. I tried quite a few of the baked items and they were DELICIOUS to say the least. Some of the cookies may not look perfect but every single one tastes great. There is an oblong one that you MUST try. It is an orange based cookie and the flavor keeps building - the first bite may seem tasty and orangey but as you chew the taste gets better; I don’t know how they have achieved this. The staff working here is very nice. I can’t really speak Portuguese and they don’t really speak English but they helped me figure out what sandwich I can get and which cookies I can try. This is undoubtedly one of the best stocked bakeries in Tavira. There was a young man here that is very friendly and understands English very well. He was also very helpful in choosing new pastries. They have Oat milk! And wifi, that reaches outside. During our visit there was construction so not a great time for outdoor seating but nevertheless, it’s nice to have that option.
