As I'm of indian heritage, I usually cook my own indian food as I don't rate those in central algarve that highly. That said, we found ourselves in Tavira for a day trip a few weeks ago and needed to find a decent place for lunch. Mehfil was relatvely nearby and thought we'd give it a try but, not expecting much. What an incredible surprise. Once a decade I'll have such a special restaurant experience where the food, service, generousity and conversation all come together. We ordered a bunch of starters, I think fish pakora, mago lassi and stuff but to our surprise, our waiter (who turned out to be the manager/owner) comped us a plate of fresh cripsy & tasty poppadoms with a range of sauces. Good start ! For mains we ordered the prawn biryani and the channa bhatura. Wow tasty and generous portions to the point where we couldn't finish our food. The manager had noticed my child had necked the cold, tasty mango lassi in one so her ordered another for her on the house. Sweet ! We got chatting with the conversation getting deeper and deeper. We were blessed to then join the manager at his table for desset and masala chai. So in the end, we had the most memorable 3 hour lunch. The food was 5 stars, the kindness and generority was on another level and the conversation, delightful & meaningful. I'm happy to say I now regard "Jonny" as a family friend and we're eager to return (when we're next in the eastern end of the algarve). Thank you Jonny & family this experience...
Read moreTonight I had the pleasure of dinning at what may be one the best Indian restaurants I’ve ever been too if not the best! I want to start by saying the staff are extremely friendly here and really know how to take care of their customers. When you go ask for Gurpreet (Gary) he was the person serving us and had amazing customer service, he really went out of his way to ensure that we had our best experience at Mehfil Indian Restaurant. He suggested the Karahi so we ordered it with lamb which was amazing!!! We also ordered their chicken tika masala and butter chicken which was the best I’ve ever tried! The food came out with amazing presentation, had a perfect level of heat and was also extremely tender. They will also Adjust the heat to your liking so if spice is or isn’t your thing they have you covered on that too. All in all this place was incredible and if you’re in Tavira and are craving some authentic Indian food this is the spot you need to try! Sadly I’m only here for a week but I definitely am not leaving without stopping by there again. The experience was...

It’s been a few weeks since my husband and I last went to Mehfil in Tavira. We went for lunch yesterday and Johnny and his team didn’t disappoint. My husband had the Chicken Tikka (on a hot plate) with plenty of succulent, tasty chicken. On Johnny’s recommendations I tried a Vegetable Jalfrezi for the first time. It was absolutely delicious and is definitely on my list to have again next time we visit. With the poppadom’s, naan bread and rice the meal was substantial and very, very tasty. The staff at Mefil are always very attentive without being intrusive and are happy to answer any questions you have about the food. We have been eating at Mefil since they opened in Tavira and they have consistently provided excellent food and great customer service. We can definitely recommend that you...
