HIMALAYAN DINE-IN RESTAURANT(Nepali and Indian restaurant) — Restaurant in Vila Nova de Gaia

We came for an early lunch on a Friday in late July. Though the day was warm, we were able to sit outside in the shade with a nice breeze. We were in the mood for momos. We ordered 2 plates of momos because the photo on the menu showed only 6 momos on a plate. Surprise! I didn’t count them, but I think there were 10 per plate. We ate them all. The veggie momos were filled with a nicely textured vegetable mixture and were SO good. The pork momos were fragrant with spices, but the firm homogeneous texture of the meat wasn’t our preference. There were two delicious dipping sauces with the momos, one of them was a hot sauce that ACTUALLY HAD SOME HEAT TO IT! (Yay)

The chicken biryani provided a sublime blend of flavors and textures. The perfect rice was seasoned with, among other things, whole spices -clove,cardamom, star anise and black pepper?- that had been fried in oil- bringing forth both texture and flavor. There were tasty pieces of chicken nested in the rice, crunch from fried onions, and fresh cilantro and mint sprinkled on top. I can’t wait to order it again. We also ordered the rich daal makhani and a tasty Mango lassi.

This restaurant is a local gem! While located a little away from the city center (in Gaia) this restaurant is worth a visit. The atmosphere is simple, but cozy, and the owner is friendly. While we have tried Indian/Nepalese food in many countries (and being Indian ourselves), this was hands down one of the best meals we have ever had. We ordered

1. veg mom jhol style - so so tasty, especially the jhol sauce!
2. kadai paneer - absolute perfection
3. raita - excellent We asked for everything to be spicy and the chef delivered! Unfortunately their tandoor was not working the day we went so I think they had to substitute their naan with another type of bread, but it was still fine. Since this restaurant is in Gaia, I recommend having dinner at this restaurant and then doing the 10 mins walk to Jardin do morro to watch the sunset (or vice versa).
