Kanpai Fusion Sushi Douro Marina — Restaurant in Vila Nova de Gaia

Beyond angry. Family of 4 visiting including 2 year old and 4 year old. We ALL suffering from severe food poisoning. Vomited 7 times and diarrhea too. Imagine vacationing with kids and on the very last day Here we all get sick. Not able to board the flight. I'm livid. Edited to add for reply: IM REALLY disappointed for your reply. Yes we thanked the very nice manager because we thought the food was good and had no idea it went back. That was the very last meal of the day and suddenly all 4 of us start vomiting and you're saying it's not from the meal? So it wasn't the sushi was it the kids chicken and noodles since we all ate that too? How do you know we eat ALL day as youve Said? We've had a very healthy home-cooked meal at home for lunch and your food came hours later. Sometimes with the right amount of spices you can absolutely cover up fish that's older. Food poisoning doesn't happen right after you eat, it happens a few hours later. All of us are very sick and we only ate at your restaurant and hours later we vomit. I checked the reviews and others said the fish tasted old. The server lady and manager was very nice indeed, the place has a beautiful view, but I'm sorry the food went bad whether you agree or not. No way 4 of us get sick after not eating anything else and all ok the entire day before. I have eaten jn sushi restaurants before where I've gotten sick but the manager quickly apologized and alerted everyone . But you blame us without even knowing what we ate before? Very sad. I told my wife, we had to eat sushi in Porto. They are so close to the ocean, I was convinced it would be much fresher than anything we'd eaten in the deserts of New Mexico. On our tour of the Sandeman port wine cellars, we ran into a group that highly recommended Kanpai from a prior visit.

Kanpai has a wonderful view of the Douro River. It was a 20-minute Uber ride from Sandeman. We ordered 2 porto tonicas (13 euros each), which came in generous glasses and tasted super refreshing. We ordered two of the salmon and shrimp Furai (6.90 euros each) and the sakura sashimi, a combination of 20 slices for 21 euros. The Furai Temaki wraps tasted delicious and they were generous with the salmon. Sashimi slices were large and thick, but they weren't as fresh as I expected. Service was fast, at least the wraps and drinks came out fast. Sashimi took about 15 minutes, but that's expected if they aren't pre-cut slices, which they should never be.

A great view of the river, fast service, good prices, but I am subtracting one star because the sashimi didn't taste super fresh. Maybe just visited here...

I dropped by for a nice meal by myself. Sushi was good and fresh, service is bad. With 5 servers and a not so full restaurant I wonder why there was no hospitality whatsoever. I ordered a menu but I wasn’t satisfied, so I wanted to order more. You should’ve seen the face of the waitress, who was clearly dissapproving (why???). Furthermore, when you give me the dessert menu I expect you to drop by in not too much time to ask me what I want. This was unfortunately not the case, as the waiters were behind front desk looking at their phones. I decided to leave (after waiting a good solid 15 minutes) and get my dessert somewhere else.
