I already bought take-out grilled chicken from this restaurant several times. The queue for take-away is always long. We went two times for lunch last week in May 2025 because the first lunch was good. Unfortunately, the second dine-in lunch was disappointing. The restaurant is located in Rua de Soares dos Réis in Vila Nova de Gaia, a few meters from Santo Ovídio.
Take-away or take-out To avoid long queues for take-away food, I advise you to call them because take-out walk-in and take-out by call have different queue numbers.
Dine-in They have limited seats available for lunch time. It was our first time last week. The first experience was excellent, unfortunately the second experience was disappointing.
Menu They sell Portuguese traditional grilled chicken with piri-piri sauce or normal sauce, entrecosto, etc. Our first lunch was on week days, we ordered 1 chicken included with fried potatoes, we completed it with rice and salad. The chicken was tasty and delicious. Piri-piri sauce is good, but too salty. Our second lunch was on the weekend. We arrived around 13:30. We ordered half chicken and half entrecosto. We were disappointed with our food. The chicken was grilled with no taste, and the entrecosto was tasteless. It seems they don't marinate it.
Price Related to the price, we spend at least 10 euros per person with drinks already included. We always have leftover food to take home. They also have a prato do dia menu with an economic price. The portion is always huge.
Staff The staff is nice and friendly. He even informed us that it might be a delay because of our entrecosto.
Payment can be in cash...
Read moreWe heard from the Social Media that the Chicken Piri Piri in Portugal is something that every tourist should try. We came to Porto determined to try one, but it's hard to find a restaurant that serves Chicken Piri Piri. We ended up having it at O Piri Piri, which is in Vila Nova de Gaia. We were amazed that the chicken were delicious and the fries also tasted great. I call tell that they were cut really fresh and fried. Another great surprise was that 2 whole grilled chickens, a serving of fries, a salad and a litter of Coka Cola only cost us 29€ and a change. What a Treat! By the way, you have to tell the staff inside that you want a tabe to dine in, in order to be seated. Don't wait outside because the long lineup is usually for...
Read moreDon’t let the humble setting deceive you - this is honestly some of the best chicken I’ve ever had. Freshly char grilled, smothered in delicious piri-piri sauce and sold by the kilo, the chicken is bursting with flavour. Greasy hands, a sweaty back and a smoky aroma. It doesn’t get more authentic than this. Would give 6...
