MARU Korean BBQ, Pearl — Restaurant in Doha

Tried for first time and won’t be returning. There is another Korean BBQ restaurant in Doha that is miles ahead of this place in terms of fresh meat and ambience.

We went on a Thursday night and it was dead. Probably a handful of customers that’s it.

Positive notes: Introductory waiter (who seated us at the table) - well educated on the menu, polite. Good number of accompanying side dishes with chosen menu item.

Negative notes: We went with the A1 menu item which is the meat and chicken combo BBQ with accompanying sides. Meat did not taste good quality. This was the biggest let down and reason for the overall 2 stars. When you are paying +300 QAR for the A1 menu item, meat should be good quality.

Small amount of dipping sauce to go with the poor quality meat - couldn’t even mask the poor meat taste with sauce.

15 QAR for a Cola Zero - which was basically a 2.5 QAR small bottle of cola you can buy from the grocery shops. Extremely inflated price to pay for just a normal bottle of cola that comes with glass and ice to pour into. No lemon wedge. Waiter (not original one who seated us) didn’t even bother to pour the cola into the glass.

Original waiter must have been on break or attending to something else but all other waiters not that good.

One female waiter (again not the original one) just came over and turned the heat down on the cooker without asking….we were still cooking the food so why reduce the temperature without asking? The food wasn’t burning. If it was I would understand their action.

No response from waiters when pressing the call button. Even when getting a passing waiter’s attention (female waiter) she acknowledged the request but...

3rd time visiting, this time for dessert, and I was shocked about being denied service.

The staff at the entrance were very friendly. However, from the moment I was seated, the service took a 180.

I have visited the restaurant before with friends, and their service has been bearable, probably because we were paying for food. It was made clear to us today that you are not welcome if you do not come to spend around 300 riyals minimum.

During my last visit, after eating, I ordered Bingsu with my friend. It was excellent. I recommend their desserts over the food items since, unfortunately, you are not getting what you're paying for with food items. Only the ice cream is truly worth its price, and quality-wise.

Naturally, today's visit was for Bingsu. I came to Doha for a short stopover, and I promised my family to try the Bingsu at this restaurant, yet we were denied service.

There is NOTHING on the menu or the promotional stand that states 'inability to order dessert unless you order food'. The waiter shut the idea down, although it is odd to deny a customer a menu item and say, 'You have to order food to get bingsu complimentary.' FYI, it is not complimentary if you end up having to pay for the ice cream. The restaurant was not full, and I wasted 20 minutes of my time waiting for the waiter to return with bad news.

In those 20 minutes, we could have had our Bingsus and would have left on our way back home. I'm very disappointed in the service, and I do not recommend going there at all.

I recently visited Maru Korean BBQ in Quartier Canal, Doha, and I must say it was an absolutely incredible experience! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and an inviting atmosphere that set the tone for a memorable dining experience.The quality of the food was exceptional fresh, flavorful, and authentic. The selection of meats was top-notch, perfectly marinated.
