A new restaurant launched in Qatar, which has 20 years plus experience with franchises in India. Located on the Mezzanine floor of Akasiya building is this buffet restaurant in Muntazah area. Even though the parking is limited, free slots can be found on the adjacent streets. The layout of the Restaurant is fine and well distributed to avoid crowds. Front Service seems to be fine even though in some areas like clearing of used plates improvements needs to be done. Talking about the legacy of Restaurant the service team was not aware of any legacy or history.
Experience We went for the lunch buffet, unfortunately not up to the mark. For QR50/- per head it is not worth it. The reason being that the overall food spread was very limited, refilling was slow and the spread itself was not available till the end of buffet time. Then comes quality of food: Salad counter- was minimalistic with Fattoush, sliced vegetables and toppings, hummus and coleslaw ( only place we have seen were raisins have been used as garnish for coleslaw) Soup section - seafood soup /Hot and Sour were the choices. Both needs improvement Roti section - paratha and Naan were served. Rice and Pasta section - Chicken biryani was ok and thankfully chicken was also cooked nicely, mutton Pulao - rice was fine but not much trace of mutton, Veg noodles and pasta were fair. There were two chicken dishes which were ok and a mixed seafood masala. Mixed seafood masala even though there was a lack of freshness, the crab, prawns and calamari were cooked nicely and the gravy itself was flavorful. Then there was the unfortunate Dal Makhani which sadly had that overpowering taste of turmeric. A counter for waffles with options for various toppings was present as well. Side Dish section- Mixed vegetable was fine Afghani chicken- better than other dishes but lacks authenticity Crispy Veggies - average but some parts were very chewy Crab roast - comparatively better Chili Gopi - Average Assorted tandoor - disaster ( overpowering with masala and salt especially Tikka and hariyali, the malai was somewhat better) Fish Tawa fry - really sad. First of all they have used frozen white fish and marination itself lacked liveliness.
Dessert counter - needs a drastic upgrade. All the good desserts were kept separately for Ala Carte menu. For the buffet they had two bowls of mousse. One for Mango and another for chocolate. Both were very disappointing and lacked richness. Jelly served was typical that you get in all other places. The fourth was a sponge cake with cream which was very average. Fifth and final dessert was the Sago Pudding which could be elevated.
Hence the over experience was disappointing and below average compared to restaurants in their class. Thinking of it, it’s usually very rare not to have a standout dish or experience In a buffet. Yes it’s understandable for the restaurant to work out the economics, but we also need to point out that there was no beef dish and lack of mutton in mutton pulao. So literally no meat dish. Anyways Savoury Seashells definitely need to up their flavor...
