The case of the missing salt and the 2.5 stars:
Going here made me feel like an explorer. Except instead of treasure I tried finding decent food amongst a sea of bland and tepid dishes.
First, the good: Both the strawberry lemonade and the tea were very nice. The seaweed salad was also quite enjoyable. The generic sauces drizzled onto the korean chicken were ok.
The Bad: Everything lacked flavour. Every dish we tried was extremely bland, to the point where unless you read the menu, you would not be able to tell what it is you're eating. The kimchi was another complete and utter mystery as it was not only bland, but also bitter, with a dark flavour and sandy texture. The 10 ingredient beef hotplate which came tepid at best and extremely bland.
The weird: Complimentary fruit flies in the hotplate (they were kind of on the edge so idk at which point they joined the party) Mystery Kimchi. Two straws in the drink, one paper one plastic. Two cute live birds hanging from a tree indoors over a fountain in a very small cage.
Overall, i think if you're generally eating low salt maybe it's worth a visit....but i would not recommend...
Read moreLa Cao is a Chinese restaurant that offers a wide variety of traditional Chinese dishes. The restaurant has a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a casual dinner or a special occasion.
The restaurant also offers a variety of vegetarian and vegan options, which is great for those with dietary restrictions. The vegetable fried rice, for instance, was filled with a variety of fresh vegetables and had a nice balance of flavors.
The service at La Cao was also very good. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they were happy to make recommendations or answer any questions I had. They were also accommodating the table and refilled the tea cups frequently.
Overall, La Cao is a great Chinese restaurant that offers a wide variety of delicious and authentic dishes. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the service is excellent. If you're looking for a casual and delicious Chinese meal, La Cao is definitely...
Read moreNot a nice experience... The location is not very central, is on a small street, no parking available, unless you're willing to leave your car on the sidewalk... The restaurant is upstairs , a nice decorated room with about 10-12 tables. I ordered shredded beef with sweet and sour sauce and my friend ordered pork with 10 spices. We were asked if we'd like rice or noodles on the side, I said no my friend yes. The food came and the noodles lookes old (rice noodles with veggies) her pork looked good and my dish not. If you ever had real chinese food, you'll know that the food here has nothing chinese in it... The ginger you barely feel it, no soy sauce in the dishes (true, you can order it on the side, but it's not the same....), my shredded beef was actually sliced beef, the sweet and sour sauce was only sweet.... We didn't finish any of our dishes and we're definitely not...
