El Copitas — Restaurant in Владимирский округ

Awesome place. I'm from Houston and my family is from Mexico so I know a thing or two about Mexican restaurants and bars and this place has done their homework.

It's hard to find since it's unmarked and it may be difficult to get a spot or even get in since it's very small. Everyone was still very nice and helpful. The bartenders knew we were tourists and still treated us with the best hospitality.

They welcomed my girlfriend and I with a tequila shot and a sangrita back. Good tequila and great sangrita. We ordered tacos and they were perfect. The tortilla well made and well cooked, the pork perfectly cooked and the sauce was incredible. I could discern mole and ancho chile flavors; the tacos were topped with pumpkin seeds and a bit of cream. They really learned the flavors in Mexico (I was told they traveled to Oaxaca to learn about them) and it tasted very traditional.

El Copitas has got everyone wondering"how do I even get in there", and it is rather fair that finding out just how long in advance you've got to book makes you think "maybe I don't.." But though it really is a pain to grab a seat in this legendary bar, the experience justifies everything. It's amusing to realize they chose not to directly expand or relocate when fame struck the place, and the ability of El Copitas to retain its underground atmosphere while being renowned as one of the best bars in the world (as according to reliable ratings) really is something. This atmosphere sets a pace that compels customers to drain glass after glass of always new creative authentic cocktails, while bantering with the lovely bunch their team are. It is far more than worth the premium-ish pricing and the wait for your booking to knock back a few in there, whether you are a young party-goer, are planning a fun date or are a jaded cocktail-connoisseur that wants to try...

Very cool place with nice dishes (the Mayan soup), rare cocktails (the Electric Flower) and comfy interiors (skulls and rabbits). The staff guys know their craft well. There is also a solid playlist coming straight outta the jukebox. Since the bar is surrounded with apartments, one shall keep it quiet when outside near the entrance. The only thing that disappointed us just a tiny bit is that we had to free the table after two hours. The Nikolay dude told us that in order to avoid this situation, we should have booked it three or four weeks beforehand (and we booked it one week in advance). So in that sense, El Copitas is...
