Very pleasant experience at Taras Bulba :)
First things first, the staff is so friendly. They all wear traditional costumes, make sure the visitors get to experience every detail of the well-decorated restaurant (i.e. taking pictures with flowers), always inform us on how much time is left until the dishes are prepared, give little bag-rests, have menus available in multiple languages, always pay attention to any finished plates, etc.
Second, you should try the POLTAVA BEEF and CHOCOLATE CHERRY CAKE. We ordered them both based on the waiter's recommendations, and we don't regret a single bit about asking him his favorite dishes!! The Poltava beef was an unexpected choice as we thought he would recommend the famous Chicken Kiev, but we very soon understood and appreciated his suggestion :D It has a layer of caramelized onions, the beef cutlet, mushrooms with a really really delicious cream (that kind of tastes like mayonnaise), and grilled cheese on top. It comes with cucumber and salad. Pleeeease please please try this!!!
Another dish we ordered was rabbit stew - we were curious of the taste of rabbit. It just tasted like chicken😅
We then ordered the Chicken Kiev, which was much better than the rabbit stew (though the Poltava beef was tastier hahahah). Thin chicken layers are rolled and fried with a juice/soup in the middle, and the slightly cheesy taste was very delicious!! The mashed potato served along was soooo nicely buttery and smooth!! If you ordered another dish, you should at least have the mashed potato as a side dish because it is so tasty!! It also came pretty fast.
For desserts, we again asked the waiter his favorite - chocolate cherry cake. DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! Very creamy and delightful👍👍 We also tried the Kievsky out or curiosity, but it had a unexpected hard texture (meringue) which wasn't smth we were looking for.
Tldr; get the Poltava beef and the chocolate cherry cake!!
Would love to...
Read moreFor International speakers: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this amazing 24/7/365 place!!! Five of five stars over each time since my first visit in 2010! You'd like to taste Russian/Ukrainian traditional meals being surrounded by an authentic atmosphere just next to the Kremlin? No way, no choice - just head up yourselves to the "Taras Bulba" Korchma at Mokhovaya Street, 8!
NOTE: That would be a good idea to have some cash with you AND to book a table prior to your visit. Though booking a table is not necessarily - you're always very welcome there just walking in as well - this would allow you to avoid wasting your time in line over rush hours. Hope, this help.
For owners/managers: I'll be there, back with you, buddies, shortly, and then - back to Google/Yandex with updates, so, keep firming the mark! Well, you have been doing that, at this location, since - at least - 2010, I know!

Read moreVery rude and unhelpful service. Visited that place with my girlfriend, I've been forced to sit as fast as possible even though my girlfriend didn't manage to give her clothes to the cloakroom. Then I asked for both Russian and English menu but i got only English one (looked like translated in google translator and was different from Russian one), tried to call waiter but they disappear as fast as possible so you cannot interfere with them at all. Ordered soup and man dish, waiter brought us incomplete main dish (probably because English and Russian menu were different) few minutes after soup so we're still in a middle of eating and when we finished main dish was already cold. We wanted to notify waiter but as before he run away.
They are trying to do everything so you'll leave place as fast as possible and get another customer with his money.
Stay away...
