Went for dinner on Thursday night around 11pm. Ended up staying until 12:45am. The restaurant concept is simple: Korean bbq (as seen famously in kdramas). I would consider this quite close to an authentic Korean bbq experience. The meats are not marinated. The taste comes from the quality of the meat and eating them ssam style.
You can choose from 3 plate options: chicken, shrimp or mix. We ordered the mix plate (130 sar per person) which includes beef, chicken and shrimp. It also includes 3 sauces (I think they were soy sauce, gochuchang and ssamjang - you can use it as a dipping sauce or to marinate ur meat before cooking), lettuce to create "ssam" (lettuce wraps), and various side dishes (mixed veg kimchi, fresh cucumber kimchi, glass noodles, cold potato stir fry, tteokbokki, spring onion topped with sweet chili, deep fried tofu topped with sweet chilli, omelette slices, creamy sauce like ranch..?). You can also request for rice and miso tofu soup. Next time, i would skip the tofu soup as I've had better. All the meats and side dishes are refillable! We refilled the beef as it was absolutely delicious! Good marbling with chunky portions of fat. Delicious! Keep in mind these are not marinated, so top it with some salt to get the best flavour out of the meats. The shrimp was good as well. You can request the waitress to peel the shrimps to make cooking easy. The chicken was okay. A little too chunky for a Korean bbq. The meats were best eaten as a ssam / lettuce wrap. Put your fav side dishes and meat into the lettuce, top up with a sauce, fold it up burrito style and enjoy. You can watch a video on Korean bbqs before going if you are feeling intimidated. I'm sure the waitress will guide you as well if you ask for help.
As for drinks, we ordered cucumber lemonade which tasted like a regular lemonade with hint of cucumber freshness. Nothing memorable but tasted good and paired well with the food. Keep in mind It can serve UpTo 4 people (1-1.5 liter pitcher). They also have 0% beer which my friends said went really well with the bbq.
We didn't try any of the desserts as we were quite full and the lemonade was sweet enough to hit the spot in that regard.
After the bbq, you can request for some complimentary green tea which tasted really good and was a great way to cleanse our palette and end the meal. The tea itself tasted good, somewhere in between regular green tea and matcha.
The ambience is nothing fancy and definitely don't wear ur best clothes as the smell of grilled food will stick to your clothes and hair since the food is being grilled using charcoal (which produces a good amount of smoke). The smoke was not bothersome like how some reviews mentioned. When you enter the restaurant the smell is strong, however, once you've settled into your booth and started cooking, your nose gets used to it and the smell dissipates. Personally, it didn't bother us at all and our table consisted of people who have dust allergy, perfume allergy and eczema. If you are an asthma patient or tend to cough easily then maybe it would be too much.
This is an experience best shared with friends and family. It's cozy, fun and conversation friendly. Reserve 2 hours for this experience as it takes time to grill the meat, assemble your food and eat it. There will be a learning curve as you try to figure out the best way to grill the meats as they tend to stick to the hot plate. But that's all part of the experience! If you have tried hotpot and loved the experience, this is a must try!
You can also book a private seating area for UpTo 8 people if needed. Great for families or ladies.
Overall a great visit and will...
Read moreFirst of all, Woo Samgyup is one of my fav restaurant with friends. But tonight is my last day going there because of this one particular waitress name Alysah. I was first asked her nicely if one of my friend can be exclude from the charge as he just underwent bariatric surgery so he can’t even tolerate small amt of food, more like hanging out with us. She then came to us rudely and serve the food inappropriately while telling me “you cannot refill because your friend dont want to pay” with her very unfriendly face (words we dont want to pay was super inappropriate). We saw her with the guys customer infront of our table, she acted as a waitress with smile, unlike how she treated us. All these while we went there, we knew most of the waitress and waiter and we respect each other. We enjoy eating there. Then i asked her why u didnt smile with us but u were smiling and treat right the guys customer infront of us? Right after that was the time she started act gangster and shouting at me, denying what i said and accused me being pissed of because of she told me that i cannot refill. (We paid the total amount and im not even touch the food served by her). I lost my appetite and food is not meant to serve that way. She kept came to my table to fight and telling bad words. Since years im eating there, this staff name Alysah i never seen before. I assumed that she was a new staff. I dont want to said disgusting things about her bahaviour because i believed woo samgyup company educated each of their staff about courtesy in working and treat the same customer. Her attitude was so unprofessional and multiple times came to my table interrupted me talking with other waiters because i didn’t like to deal with her. She kept shouting even she went to the kitchen i could hear from our table. I think woo samgyup should check her mental health status. She looks super stress. I demand an apology but she refused to do so. I was talking to one of the waiter there about her, she interrupted us talking and she show a body language as really wanted to fight with me (a customer). I already made a complaints as well to gov united national platform and definitely will go there again soon to meet her in...
Read morereview update 2025: What can I say... we kept coming back after trying different samgyeupsal places... THIS IS THE ONLY SAMGYEUPSAL THAT SATISFIES OUR TASTE BUDS so far (we haven't tried the fancy ones yet).
Clark (i always call him charles i dunno why) and the ladies of the house 3 of them... their smiles, how can you not go back? I recently dined after months due to injury but we were served as excellently as before. Maraming maraming salamat Team Woo!
3nd samgyup joint i've dined in...i have tried jinkin, an upperscale korean bbq, and meatin' grill another unlimited meat for 150 in Malqa, then i landed at Woo.
I was hesitant to go coz of my ex husband's bad review when he dined few years back when it first opened, but upon seeing good reviews, my friend/ teacher-partner-in-crime (who was also so hungry after all her dealings with her students, and all the books we finished checking), we decided to go...but wait! We were supposed to go to the other one near the military hospital (i checked the reviews, which i always do before going to a place), and because of the not so good comments plus a cockrach incident (omg!) We detoured to Woo (and i can say God really lead us to this place)...here's why:
First, the Filipino crew, as expected, are so welcoming and with a ready smile. I want to greatly commend Judy, who was really enthusiastic, cheerful, and giddy to all the customers who dined. I can hear her explain to arab customers the menu...and neing the only server, she went around to make sure all dishes and meat are refilled.
The side dishes are an ample amount, and the meat (chicken, beef, and shrimp) were fresh. You can have your shrimps peeled from the kitchen... and i suggest that while grilling, sprinkle some salt and pepper to all your meats.. believe me, you will enjoy much more.
Overall, it was a happy and enjoyable experience. My first satisfied samgyup dine in of all.
We spent 142 each for:
2 mix samgyup-all-you-can 1 putcher of cucumber lemonade 1 diet coke 1 bottled water.
Plus ofcourse my tip for Judy for such...
