Conscious Culinary Delight at Makers Landing Situated in the heart of V&A Waterfront's Makers Landing, Conscious Carnivores is nothing short of a culinary revelation. Marrying the rich gastronomic traditions of Cape Town with an ethos of sustainability, this establishment offers a dining experience that's both soulful and sumptuous. The ambiance is a harmonious blend of rustic charm and modern sophistication, capturing the essence of the iconic V&A Waterfront while providing a cozy retreat from its bustling activity. Every corner feels like a carefully curated space, reflecting the restaurant's commitment to thoughtful dining. As the name suggests, Conscious Carnivores takes pride in its ethically sourced meats, ensuring diners enjoy flavors that are rich, authentic, and guilt-free. Each dish is a testament to the restaurant's dedication to fine craftsmanship, with flavors layered intricately, teasing the palate with every bite. But what truly sets this restaurant apart is its staff, who navigate the balance between being attentive yet non-intrusive perfectly. Their knowledge of the menu and its sourcing adds depth to the dining experience, allowing patrons to connect with their food on a profound level. For those venturing into the V&A Waterfront, Conscious Carnivores at Makers Landing is an unmissable stop. It's not just a meal; it's an experience that speaks to the heart, palate, and conscience.

Firstly I have deleted my old review that was 4 stars. This time I have given this place 2 stars. Food It was not bad, it is actually saving this review. The pasta was okay, value for money. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her Nashville chicken burger. The starters were amazing, the halloumi cheese was so good. Atmosphere It is so awkward and people are on top of each other. I actually enjoyed the industrial feel at Marker landing and you could actually breathe. Here I kept staring at the ceiling trying to figure out what they were doing. The eating area feels like a waiting room at the doctor’s office. What happened to the beautiful brown tables that made it feel like fine dining. Service I would give it zero stars because the staff made everything seemed like we were just wasting space. The waiter approached us 5 minutes after we received our food as to say that we must start eating. This after waiting 25 - 30 minutes for the food. My friend was eating her burger so fast that she could barely enjoy it. I had to stop her and tell her to eat slowly. They ended up giving us the incorrect bill as well, valued at R950. That was extremely awkward. I have been at this establishment over 5 times and I believe this is shall be my last time. Such a shame as most of their food is pretty amazing.

What an absolutely gorgeous space. Hostess was super friendly and helpful and clearly informed us that our meal would take approx 25mins after we each placed our orders. The only down side was that our food was not served simultaneously. My daughter didn't order meat but chicken strips and fries and her food arrived 15 mins ahead of ours . They should have timed that a bit better so we could eat together. Other than that everything else was perfect. My pet peeve is cold fries but I was ecstatic that my serving was perfectly steamy hot and my steak was melt in the mouth divine! Onion rings were nice and crunchy and my passion fruit was a perfect blend. Hubby was entirely satisfied with his choice of a wagyu burger and fries and pomegranate mojito and my son had the T bone steak with salad and mushroom sauce with a pineapple mojito. A mouth watering meal in good company and relaxing ambiance and attentive waiters. Thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Thank you for an amazing experience.

just went here for my birthday today with my wife and 2 kids, tried this place for the first time ever. was severely disappointed because the service was literally the worst I ever had in my life. ordered a coke zero for my kids to share, so they bring 2 glasses. ordered a coke for myself and they offered ice and lemon.. I got nothing, not even a glass, just the coke can itself. and then they bring 1 straw for us to all share?

my wife enquired whether they have anything special for birthday celebrations, and then without consulting us they throw 3 scoops of ice cream together with 3 small pieces of fruit, bring it to our table while we're still busy with starters, and tell us it's gonna be R100 for that. We told them we haven't had our mains yet, but they said they already made it so we HAVE to take it.. so we eventuallly agreed they'll put it in the FRIDGE until we're done with mains, and they said they're only gonna charge R50 instead. So much for my wife wanting to make things extra special for my birthday, which was now turning into one of the worst ever.

After we had starters, they take away all our utensils and don't bring any new ones for the mains. Each time a utensil left the table, whether it was for starters or a dish being replaced for being incorrect, the utensils weren't replaced and we had to ask for new ones each time.

So basically our mains were sitting there getting cold and us all just looking at it until we could get the attention of a waiter (it was crazy busy for a Monday night, people waiting outside and downstairs looking impatiently up at us even), and waited yet again for them to bring the utensils. So I started eating the sides before I get to my steak, but then I realise my medium to well steak (that looks great on the outside) is actually very pink and rare when I cut into it, so I send it back for them to get it done right.

Eventually at 8.30pm on a school night, 1.5 hours later after we arrived and also after my whole family had finished their food, I finally get to start my main meal.. again.. which was still pink but slightly more edible at least. It was already way past the kids bedtime, and I still had a long drive home, so I wasn't going to complain a second time.

The guy that brought me the steak looked like maybe he was the chef, and impatiently he was like "is it done the way you want it now?" - as if he had done it right but I was the problem. Instead he could have said "we apologise for giving you a rare steak, I've made sure this one is medium to well"

When they brought the desert that was forced upon us, we realise they had put it in the FREEZER instead of the fridge, the ice-cream was fine but the chocolate sauce was rock hard, and so was the fruit, which both went to waste.

When the bill came I see they didn't charge for the desert (which I thought was an apology for the bad service), but when I handed them the card machine the waitress said I must add R50 extra to the bill (the bill that was already printed without the desert listed), for the desert.

The bill for 2 adults and 2 kids came to about R1,000.. so I gave them a 5% tip instead of the usual 10% because the service was so bad. The waitress then said that R50 extra is going to the desert, so I just told them whether they want it as their tip or count towards to the desert, that's up to them, I'm not going to be paying any more.

Needless to say I won't ever be back, but for the other patrons that are dumb enough to pay these crazy prices for sub-par food and terrible service in a cramped venue that's essentially above a convenience store, I hope...

I usually rave about CC to all my friends and family, but last night we had a really bad experience.

I will start of by saying that I normally don't go through the effort of leaving a bad review unless the experience really was bad. I have been to the establishment many times so it was surprising to receive such bad service.

To start off with it was an issue just getting a table, but not because the location was filled. Since the move from makers landing, bookings are no longer allowed so I decided to get the table for myself and 7 other people. I waited 20 minutes before someone reluctantly allowed me to sit down. The restaurant was empty but I couldn't sit down because the rest of my party was not there yet. Had the place been full and I was taking up space that could be given to other people, I would understand and I would have probably given it up but the restaurant had one other family eating. It was 6pm on a Monday. This also wouldn't happen if the space was not as small as it is.

Then they had specials on their board were not available. Completely sold out. How that happens at 6pm on a Monday with an empty restaurant that is only open from 11am onwards is beyond me.

Then it was an issue that we had asked for half and half with the fries and onion rings, which we always do and were always offered at the previous location.

After that a friend found a hair in a plate, which when we pointed it out the waiter on hand and our actual waiter acted as if "why are we pointing this out?". They also seemed reluctant to remake part of the meal. The manager eventually came to apologize, but really we were already 75% done eating so what was the point.

Finally when we got takeaway containers, which were not the right size for what needed to be taken home, it was dirty. It really just was the cherry on top.

The food was good and you can tell the creators of the business had a vision that carries though into the food, but the food as the service and staff really were just lackluster So if you are willing to put up with it for the food then that's...

When we arrived we were told that it's a 30 minute wait for the food. We agreed and did not mind. The waiter took long to come and take our order. Finally when he came we ordered 2 grass fed burgers and 2 strips and chips. The strips and chips came within 20 minutes. The waiter never bring the water and we had to ask numerous times. After 1hour we enquired about the burgers. The waiter kept on staying it's coming but it never came. The waiter still never bring the burgers until we said we are leaving. Finally the burgers came after a 1hour 20 minute wait. I had to go and ask the waiter in the kitchen to bring our drinks because he never brought it. The one burger was raw. The pattie was cooked on the outside but raw on the inside. The manager came to apologise about it, however they still took long to bring the new burger. Than i had to go back to the kitchen and ask for serviettes and all the staff were just looking. So i scream at them and asked for serviettes again and they just stood and looked. I even told the manager nonsense because they did not want to give me serviettes. The manager says that i am aggressive and must be calm. The rest of the staff did not want to give me serviettes and called my waiter to do it. I even had to constantly nag them to bring the bill until i told them, if i don't get it i am not paying. They then charged for the drink that they never brought. The people next to us only waited 30 minutes and they received their steaks and burgers. The waiter took our details and said the owner will call. This was on the 12th of January, it is now the 6th of February and still nothing. I would never recommend this place to anyone or ever come back to this place ever again. I've eaten in many places in Cape Town during my holiday and have never been so disappointed. I could even say that their service is more worse than a government departments service. Definitely a...
