I'm Marriot gold and have been to many of the brands from W my favorite to Aloft , autograph , Jw Marriot and others . This was my first time at AC , it's an upscale modern boutique and a great addition for Marriot Positives Staff was amazing, very responsive and excellent service , from the doorman to the front desk to concierge and bellhop , premium vip service is the standard. Whenever I needed somthing it was super fast I was upgraded to a suite which was very much appreciate and given a late checkout The rooms are large , modern and very upscale , love the design and styling! The kitchen has amazing food at a fair price, some of the best food at any Marriot brand I have been to. The fillet 🥩 is amazing and reasonably priced . Room service , breakfast and dinner are all really good They say in real estate it's location location location. And the location is terrible. On a map it's close but it's isolated and you have to walk around. So what should be a 5-10 minute walk to the waterfront is a 35 minute walk. In fact you are essentially trapped and need to Uber every single time u leave the hotel . The good thing is it's cheap so an Uber to the waterfront is $3 , the bad thing is you always have to know exactly where u are going and type an address into Uber. You can't walk to a single thing , no where for food , no pharmacy, no dry cleaner , no convenient store (besides the one in hotel ) nothing! It's an Uber every single time . It's not even safe to walk that quiet street from the ac past the Westin at night and there are other not so great areas on way to waterfront. A picture says a thousand words so see the 2 maps below . I'm Only writing this as I hope the owners work with the city or the Audi dealership to have cut through card controlled access to fix this. If they fix it , it becomes an amazing hotel but I won't stay there again until they do as I like to be able to walk to a few basic things especially in a hotel in a major city ! The city could also help with a walking trail over some waterways! It really is frustrating as it should be walking to a lot but it isn't ! The hotel will say they have a shuttle but it's not frequent enough to be useful. They also have an excellent free canal boat to get to waterfront , I highly recommend doing this once, but it's not frequent enough to be used daily and the last one back is 5:30 so the only real transportation...
Read moreWhen we checked in, the lady at front desk refused to acknowledge of our booking. Upon further clarification and confirmation of our booking, she refused to upgrade us nor give us our platinum status credits because she couldn’t find our booking initially. Throughout all these commotion, there wasn’t any apologies and her tone was just nasty as if it was our fault for messing up the booking. We felt just downright disappointed at this kind of treatment towards elite members when we have always received very warm welcome from other Marriott hotels.
When we arrive at our most basic room as platinum member, the toilet had unused bottle of toiletries, the floor was sticky the drainage had issues in another room that we were shifted to. I was sick that day and was already very tired yet I had to clean up the both rooms twice with my own alcohol wipes because of substandard hygiene.
When we had to travel out on rainy and windy days, I asked the front desk for an umbrella but guess what, the person curtly replied, “We don’t have umbrellas here.” And I asked,” then what do you offer your guests if they need to travel out when it’s raining?” And she replied as a matter of fact,”They uber.” As if I was an idiot. Cape town is such a beautiful city for exploring nature and yet your guests ubers everywhere?!? What an irony.
Whenever we arrive back at out hotel, there wasn’t any greetings from the front desk welcoming us back. It was a very disappointing stays compared to our stay at Kruger National Park and Hermanus where the staff were all very warm and welcoming.
My partner loves Cape Town for its hiking and driving route and we plan to return soon. Being Marriott Platinum members, we always seek to choose Marriott whenever we go but we will never choose AC Hotel Cape Towen...
Read moreEstablished brand, awesome room and facilities, however mediocre service. Located near V&A waterfront, however for personal safety, we either took Uber or drove to the water front. Location can be described as awesome, just a mere 10 minutes away from the waterfront. 9/10 Breakfast was same old same old. A rotation of the baked beans and sausages on alternative days beside the usual culprits; scrambled eggs, bacons, potatoes. Other varieties as well to be fair, just a typical American breakfast. 7/10 Parking was seamless, at a fee of 100 ranz per night which was reasonable and affordable. 8/10 The part which irked me was the inconsistent service accorded to us. Sometimes during breakfast, when you requested for certain orders, the attitude from the servers can be absolutely disgusting. On this particular occasion, when I requested from this particular server; Nokoski, she merely looked at me and at the table when I pointed at it. NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, no eye contact. When she came with my sunny side ups, she simply placed it on the table and left, without clearing the used plate which was sitting on the table. I thought I was being casted in a silent movie. 2/10 Moments later, I did observe her being friendly and chatty with the gentleman behind my wife. It makes me wonder if DISCRIMINATION has played a part being an Asian in this hotel or generally it’s happening throughout SA. I do realised that other nationalities beside Asians do get a more favorable service. I’m with an international service branding thus to me, this service attitude is blatantly unacceptable. 2/10 To make a return trip to AC Hotel, probably no unless staffs are trained to show respect to...
