Amelia Barnard Neethling Horrible place to shop!!!!! What a disappointing shopping experience!!!!! My fiancé (from the UK) and I bought an engagement ring from African Diamond at the Waterfront.. We had left the ring in the company's care to have it resized . On picking up the piece after the alteration the piece were all damaged and the workmanship on the jewellery piece was just a disgrace. We took the ring to 2 other jewellery stores at the Waterfront for a second opinion and both agreed that there were damages due to the way they tried to resize the ring. It was clear that the diamonds had fallen out and was forced back and kept in place by damaging the gold, there were dents in the gold as it was forced to hold the diamonds in place, we didn't even have a guarantee that these stones were the original diamonds or were replaced by some other stones. We demanded a refund from the company which the owner who is based in JHB, just refused. He told the sales lady to sort the matter as it was a Friday afternoon ( he is Jewish) and of to church . We made it clear that we didn't want the product or any other from their company. We approached the V and A Waterfront management for help as the company refused to refund the money. Management tried contacting the owner with no success. The Manager's PA, Nadiema Small, at the Waterfront informed us that they do not get involved in matters between shops and clients. After investigating we found out that we were not the only people that had problems with this same shop. One of the sales ladies admitted as well that they had refund a customer in the past and the owner deducted the money from their salaries therefore they were to afraid to refund the money. After almost 6 hours of reasoning with the shop and The Management of the Waterfront the shop came up with another ring, this was after we were also assured by the sales consultants of the shop when buying the ring that it was the last ring in that range and we wouldn't find any other in that style. The ring had to be resized again. They (the sales ladies) suggested we go with one of them to the goldsmith who does their alterations to have the ring resized. My fiancé as a foreigner felt that he would loose his money if he didn't take the product offered as the business owner seemed unscrupulous. He mad a comment the he felt like there was a gun held to his head by a gangster who leaves him with no other choice. We were taken to some back street warehouse by the sales lady to personally see to the resizing. We felt violated by the whole experience and were very disappointed by the Management of the Waterfront not willing to intervene and sort the matter. Foreigners should be made aware of the fact that the management at the Waterfront will not get involved or is not willing to resolve matters between customers at the waterfront and shops. Shoppers are left to their own risk shopping at any of the shops in The Waterfront. There should be signs that warn tourists about their shopping risks. We can not understand how an unscrupulous business could be allowed to do business in a shopping mall such as the Waterfront. Very disappointing and horrified experience. We will definitely make sure to warn our friends from overseas about the Waterfront as we have wedding guest who will be coming to SA for...
