Amazing product, terrible experience.
Romeo and Vero products are some of the best vegan meat substitiues out there and I reckon they could have international appeal, if they just got some help with their branding and packaging.
I've been buying Vegan Butcherie products from the Vegan Goods Market in Tokai for years, but never been to the Waterkant resturant. I went recently to pick up some of their legendary kebabs, and it was the strangest experience;
I walked in and felt incredibly awkward as the lady behind the counter just looked at me, and a man standing in front of the counter was just awkwardly hanging around. Maybe waiting to pay? But nothing was happening. I asked if one could buy their products frozen. I was told to go to one of the weird little side rooms and directed to scratch through a chest freezer.
The freezer was in a jumble and it was hard to find anything. The products in clear packets had no labels and I had to try to guess, through the frost, what was what. The boxes were poorly labeled and badly constructed; some even falling apart.
While I was paying, another customer came in looking as confused and uncomfortable as I felt. I ended up helping her find what she needed as there was no attempt from the sole staff member to help her.
The resturant had this bleak, oppressive atmosphere. It was dark and cramped and depressing. I've ordered take out from here before, and the results have been varied. The "meat" is always good, but the dishes never match their description on the menu, and use a lot of low quality ingredients in their side dishes. I've enjoyed them regardless, in the comfort of my own home. Although, had I been eating them in the resturant, it would have made for a pretty disappointing experience.
I really think this place could benefit from defining their identity a little. The space is NOT well suited for a resturant. It's too dark and small and depressing. They should lighten the place up a bit better and attempt a deli setting, with glass front freezers, containing organized shelves and clearly labeled products. The cooked food is always a little off from what I've ordered, so maybe ditch that confused and unfocused menu completely, and again, try a deli-style sandwich counter.
This place is in desperate need of a complete re-inventing, a la Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen nightmares, as well as some staff who know and care about the amazing products being sold. Your customers shouldn't have to be the ones helping other customers find what they're...
Read moreUnfortunately I would like to make a better review for a vegan restaurant but we had their a really bad experience.
We visited the restaurant on 2 different days because we wanted to give the restaurant a second chance.
First visit: We ordered 2 different plates and god not what we have ordered. We told the waitress that there happened a mistake. She told us that this is the only food which is left over and next time we have to tell her by reservation what we want. The food was good but really not what we ordered. The plates always had 3 different types of vegan meat. Unfortunately we got both the same and only 2 different types of vegan meat. Nobody told us that before- not before we ordered and not during the kitchen was making the food. Also not when we got the food.
The food was tasty so we decided to give the restaurant and 2nd chance. It was more worse than the first time. I chattet with the restaurant via whatsapp before we decided to go to restaurant again. We asked if plate x and y is available and the restaurant told us "yes, you can come". 15 minutes later we arrived and ordered our plates. We got the plates and they were again not what we ordered in the menu. We asked the waitress what happend. She told us that this is the only food what is on the bbq. We told here that we have chatted via Whatsapp before we went there. She told us, that it was not her, it was her boss.. Okay, but why again?
When you think it cant get any worse: it can. We get served the very pricey food very cold and partly still frozen.
Disastrous experience. It's a shame I have to give such a bad review to a vegan restaurant. We tried to talk to the waitress, but they didn't seem to understand.
I have to give 2 stars because of the vegan restaurant. Actually it just deserves...
Read moreI ordered on Uber eats today and they had a 2 for 1 going on for carrot cake, and upon ordering Uber registered it as 1 instead of 2. I contacted Uber and they said to speak to the restaurant. That was the most senseless conversation I had. If you have a promo going on to which you confirmed, how difficult is it to rectify it from your end. The answer was “Uber entered it as 1 so I can’t give 2 even though it’s 2 for 1. The owner/manager will check the receipts and if I give 2 I’ll have to pay for it”. I requested to speak to the manager as this is something that could easily have been solved, “the manager went home”. I said to call and explain the situation because it’s simple math and I don’t see why rectifying it from your end is such an issue when it’s simple math and if you can’t make the decision then call the manager? The guy Kris at Woodstock kept speaking over me and shouting on the phone when I asked for him to simply contact the manager because this is a simple issue to solve. The excuse made no sense at all, it’s not rocket science to fix it especially when the promo is in fact been ran by the restaurant and not something that Uber just imposed on the restaurant. Telling me about how Uber pays them a week later isn’t really a story the customer wants to hear either, how does that solve the issue at hand? Couldn’t even get the manager on the phone to address this issue, even when I said I will come in, in person! What a pointless waste of my time and energy on the phone for 20...
