Weirdly, despite all of the following, we quite enjoyed our stay. Imagine if all these small things didn't happen, we'd have REALLY loved this hotel. Wouldn't take much to improve things really. Rooms were standard and clean. No fridge, which is a pain in the summer when you want to make drinks/snacks cold. The bathroom is impossible to close the door when you're inside as the sink and toilet literally fill the room. You have to put one leg either side of the toilet to close the door. Never seen such a weirdly designed bathroom in my life. Breakfast is a wide variety but some of the things on offer were not fresh/not good. Service very smiley but inconsistent. Was difficult to get coffee as they serve it for you, but most of the time they're not paying attention so it's hard to get. We had to go to a local cafe and bring our own coffee after first day as we were there for 6 nights and the morning coffee with breakfast wasn't working out for us 😅 For majority of our stay, one of the lifts was out of service. We started to get anxiety about going out and back in to the hotel because of how long we would need to wait for a lift. 10-15 mins was a normal timeframe for getting out or into the hotel. This spoilt our stay really. Also, we recommend checking if there will be a concert in the square outside the hotel during your stay before you book. There was a concert one night and because of the old thin windows, it sounded like the concert was in the room. We came back from a busy day out and wanted to rest, but after 6hrs of this loud noise outside, we had headaches and became very irritated by it. If we hadn't been so tired from the day, we would have gone out and joined in the fun, and it wouldn't have been a problem! Videos for reference. Twice during our stay the housekeeping forgot to leave towels. We'd have been more than happy to reuse our towels and we left them hanging on the rafk. But they always took them and twice we were left towel-less! Location is excellent and the view from the pool of table mountain is great!

I highly recommend the Onomo Hotel at Greenmarket Square to anyone wanting to base themselves right in the bustling heart of Cape Town. The location is central, not far from the international convention centre and world famous waterfront as well as attractions like table mountain, parliament and the company gardens. Within easy walking distance to everything, this art deco building was built in 1929 as the head office for Shell Oil in South Africa, it was later converted into a hotel in the 1980’s. The services, rooms and facilities are well appointed and very good value for money. The area around the hotel is well policed, serviced by public transport and bustling with business, entertainment, local and international visitors. Rooms are comfortable with double glass on windows that helps block out the city noise. There are spectacular views from the pool deck on the roof. We really enjoyed our four day stay at the hotel.

O-no-move to another hotel! The hotel is located in the centre of the Cape Town business district, which sounded ideal - until we realized that it is a short walk from the train and bus station and is teaming with beggars and scam artists. The room itself very dated, our barely functioning air conditioner was circa 1950. The carpet was so filthy, my wife refused to take her shoes off. Our view of the square (where tourist tat is sold) was marred by the window sill that had several years of pigeon poop on it. The room that we were originally assigned had a completely broken lock and as the maintenance had packed up at 4pm, it could not be fixed. After a long heated discussion with the front desk ("We're totally booked, can't do anything..."), we were moved to the dingy alternate room. There are plenty of other hotels in Cape Town, do yourself a favour and find one.

If You Value Your belongings, this is not the place to Stay. The staff will steal from you and you won’t get any refund.

This is what happened to us: I had my bag ransacked by their staff who accessed the room when we were out .The said employee stole my identity card, bank card, 500dollars, 350pounds and unknown amount of Kenya shillings. We were from a wine tour and forgot to remove the purse from the backpack and place it in the safe( I was lucky the passport was in my pocket). The theft happened on the 8th of October 2023 and we were leaving on the 9th in the morning . We’re sure it’s their staff since we didn’t have any visitors in the room. The said individual had time to sort out the currency notes whereby they left the small notes and took the big notes( for the Kenyan money, they took all the thousands and 500s . Left the other notes. For the dollars they took the 100s only and for the pounds they took the 50s only).

Upon realizing this which was at around 5am when we were packing so that we could leave for the airport, I immediately called the front desk and informed them of the same and personally also went to the front desk to complain about the same and also asked for the police to be called so that we can report on the same. We were told that the police would come shortly and to also wait for the manager who would come at 7:30 am and he would come take a statement. At around 8 am, no one had contacted us and so we went to the front desk to ask if he’s around. Well, he was already there and seemed not to want anything to do with the case and told us to wait for the security guy to come. We waited. He came into the room, took statements, took out details and assured us that they would conduct an extensive investigation to determine who did it. He said that it would be very easy to know the culprit based on the CCTV footage and the room access key since it would show every time the room was accessed. They also offered to share these details with us including the cctv footage. (This never happened , our messages got ignored when we asked about the same. Also, the police never showed up.) we left the hotel at around 9am. We travelled back home . We kept texting and asking about any feedback and we were assured that they are still investigating. Well, after almost a month, they sent a very long email that did not make any sense and no mention of a refund of the money and return of the documents stolen. Here’s an excerpt from the long email; “ I want to reassure you that we conducted a thorough investigation into the matter to determine the circumstances surrounding the loss of your money. Regrettably, we were not able to conclusively identify any particular individual responsible for this incident. However, as part of our commitment to guest safety and continuous improvement, we took a risk mitigation measure and have requested the company which provides us with casual cleaning workforce, to remove one person from the premises, whose actions raised concerns during the investigation.” No mention of...

I recently stayed at this hotel for two nights (08/02/2015 and 09/02/2015) and had the most horrible experience. I had dinner at the hotel the first night and finished eating after 19h00, went past reception and asked for an iron and ironing board and went to my room. I fell to sleep around 20h50 and the iron and board were not delivered. I received a phone call from the restaurant around 21h00 regarding payment for my meal and I advised the officer to book it to the room and I would pay on check out, to which she agreed. At 22h22 the restaurant manager knocked on my door, needless to say I was already asleep, and demanded payment for the meal. I took out the credit card for processing and the meal that I had cost R209, and he mistakenly punched R609 which he only realised when the paying machine issued a receipt. He asked me to wait for him to go downstairs and sort it out, I told him I wanted to sleep and he said he would slot the corrected one underneath the door. It was not there in the morning, he never returned. Around 07h00 in the morning I called reception and asked for the iron and ironing board again, it still did not come and I ended up wearing the clothes without ironing them as I was running late. I went to the restaurant to have breakfast and found that they had run out of bowls for cereal, waited for about 10 minutes and these were not forthcoming, and ended up eating the cereal in a glass (three other guests did same). A lady that was standing next to me, also waiting for the bowls, commented that the service was as poor even the previous day. I was deeply disappointed with the service at this hotel and especially the rudeness of waking me up for payment when they knew I was there for two nights and could have waited. I generally commend hotels belonging to the Three Cities Group, but this one is not representative of the standard maintained...
