Avenue automatically includes a service charge in their bill. You as a client do not have discretion to decide if the service was good enough to warrant a tip- they just discretely include a 10% charge Irresptive what the bill amount is. There is no signs warning you hereof, it’s just at the bottom of the receipt. On top of that, the waiter wrote an “R” for rands in another line item called tips- tricking you into giving them more money and not disclosing the service charge is already included. So you need to pay the Resturant a service charge and then also the waiter an additional tip. This is absolutely shady, ridiculous, unscrupulous and unacceptable. I have never come across this type of deceit and trickery in a restaurant before. The Resturant charges enough for their meals and then expects you to in addition to pay the wages for the waiters. Then on top of that, the waiters get more tips! What if you don’t want to pay a tip/ service fee if you not happy? You don’t have the choice. But what is most disgusting is the deceit and behavior. The fact that the owner influences this , culture he drives, and is the one responsible. I tried emailing them - there is no direct line to the owner. Staff want to know what the issue is about first and when you tell them I guess the owner says not to reply as I did not get a reply after several follow ups. Eventually we got a response from the owner - he basically brushed things off and said that is how they do business. Utterly disgusted. I will not dine there again, will be telling all my friends and family not to dine there again as well. I am not big on social media but will try and make more ppl aware hereof. I will even check with appropriate authorities if a Resturant can charge you additional costs not related to your meal as they want, hide it in the fine print and not give you any discretion to decide if you want to pay a tip or not- as they make...

What a disappointing experience. Even more embarrassing for me since I vouched for the place. The waitress got our start order wrong, gave us jalapeño poppers instead of peppadew poppers. She said she heard us say jalapeño. Nonetheless, we didn’t make a big deal since my dining partner are 2 and I could make it through one since I am nine months pregnant and it was too spicy. The mains, we ordered salmon and prawns and share like we always do. The food was lack lustre and not tasty at all. We asked for the salmon to be medium to well done and it arrived cold in the centre. When the waitress asked how the food was and we said okay, she didn’t probe to find out more. Hostess came to check on us and I pointed out the undercooked salmon and she got the kitchen to rectify and it came back to the table, overcooked. Prawns had very little flavour and the best part of our meals was the vegetables and roasted potatoes. We had desert which was a brownie that had rock hard chocolate on top, where our previous experience the chocolate on top of the brownie was beautifully melted. Still we didn’t make a fuss at all. We settled the bill and we we chatting while finishing our drinks and then cherry on the cake was when the hostess approached us to ask to move us since she had patrons who needed a four seater table and since we were done eating wanted to get rid of us. An overall disappointing experience and we definitely will not be visiting this...

To my wonderful, attentive, friendly and informative waitron. Eric

Your customer service was splendid, you done everything to the Tee, what a gentleman. I appreciate your patience and geniune care. I took my family to spend some quality time, with good food and we all were well taken care of as you intially stated. Your recommendations were spot on and a good help as deciding on a meal was a slight challenge for us.

We enjoyed every moment of our meal, the quality and quantity of the dishes were divine, so a hats off to the chefs. Absolutely brilliant!

From the meet and greet at the door to seating, assisting, and the extra hands(the lady with short red braids♡) that assisted in clearing our table all displaying geniune care and kindness for guests. It was an all round 10/10 experience. Hope to try the shakes and desserts soon!

Keep up that vibe and great customer service, Eric you're killing it, thank you for going the extra mile and confirming certain details(rice/fries, and those sweet potatos too) the little details do make a big difference and they don't go unnoticed.

Thanks 'The Avenue Restaurant & Grill' what an amazing...

How to re review my favourite restaurant in Cape Town which somehow manages to upscale rather ordinary dishes into a gastronomic feast? An intimate setting, lots of authenticity and vibe, sometimes live music, great for young and old, not cheap, but you get superb quality and large portions of very well prepared food. One always has the feeling that they really care about their customers and about the quality of your experience. Lamb chops are absolutely second to none in Cape Town and highly recommended with my favourite mint jelly. Milkshakes are deluxe with some real originals like Turkish delight flavour containing the real thing, which is a must experience. I love that Tony is always there milling around with his customers and getting to know them and keeping his hand completely on the pulse of things. Prieska is a delightful hostess who adds much to the experience and is always willing to do her best to accommodate customers even when full. If you have not been, do yourself a favour and try this place!

The Avenue in Wynberg is a testament to the saying "don't judge a book by its cover." Tucked away on a side street, this small restaurant doesn't boast fancy decor, but what it lacks in ambiance, it more than makes up for in flavor. We were initially skeptical upon arrival – the exterior is unassuming. But from the moment we stepped inside, the friendly service and mouthwatering aromas put us at ease. The menu offers a wide variety of drinks, and the portions are incredibly generous. Let me tell you, the food is phenomenal. It was honestly the best we had in all of Cape Town. My steak was cooked to absolute perfection, and the salad wasn't just a plate of limp greens – it was a delightful and flavorful creation. They even have decadent milkshakes! The Avenue is a must-try for anyone visiting Cape Town. Be sure to make a reservation, though, because this local favorite fills up fast. We will definitely be making a return visit every time we're in town!
