Cafe Felix — Restaurant in Eastern Cape

This Sunday evening, I decided to visit Café Felix at Hemingways Mall, looking forward to a relaxing dining experience. While my visit had its positives, there were some aspects that could have been improved, making it a mixed experience overall.

Upon arrival, I was greeted and seated, but the service was slightly inconsistent. I ordered a cup of tea alongside my meal, expecting it to arrive promptly. However, I waited for approximately 15 minutes before receiving it. When I inquired about the delay, my server explained that she had assumed I wanted my tea served alongside my food. While misunderstandings happen, I would have appreciated a check-in or clarification earlier to avoid the wait.

That said, when my meal arrived, it did not disappoint. I opted for the double burger, and I must say, it was well-prepared, flavorful, and satisfying. The quality of the food was definitely a highlight of my visit, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. However, I was surprised that my server did not offer me any dessert options. A simple mention of available desserts would have been appreciated, as I might have considered ordering one to complete my meal.

The service itself felt a bit rushed at times, which made it slightly difficult to settle into a relaxed dining experience. While I understand the need for efficiency, a more balanced approach—where customers feel both attended to and unrushed—would enhance the overall atmosphere.

Speaking of atmosphere, this was one of the strong points of my visit. The café had a pleasant and welcoming ambiance, making it a great spot to unwind. I particularly enjoyed watching the Liverpool vs. Chelsea match while dining, which added to the evening’s entertainment. The game was engaging, and Chelsea ultimately secured the win, adding an element of excitement to the experience.

The Felix restaurant is convenient when it comes to operating times, you will find that the restaurant is usually open until late, from Monday to Sunday.

The food is generally okay the only thing, I usually order is a beef burger and a coffee, the burger has a caramelized onion taste with the crispy bun exterior and the fries are skinny fries nicely salted, the inconvenient thing about it is it all comes in a basket, would have preferred that is put on a plate.

I will have to admit that, I was with someone at the time and they ordered a cocktail and a pizza. The cocktail wasn't the best they said and gave it a 4/10 and the pizza was a bit on the bland side.

For a summary, I will be writing about my own experience at this establishment. Overall I'd have to say that their burgers and fries are something that keeps me coming back and their operating times are very convenient. My partner and I went to Cafe Felix on 26/09/2023 and the service was very poor. We waited 50mins just for our starter. When we told the waitress that we were not pleased with how long we had to wait for our food, she simply asked us why we didn’t look for her (which we did but could not find her). I am not used to restaurants where the waiters and waitresses must be looked for in order for you to get your food. We ended up just asking them to put the rest of our food in a doggy bag without eating it because we were already tired of being there. That really put a damper on date night and I honestly would not recommend this place if you want to have a hassle free and cute date night.
