Charlie's Pizza & Pasta — Restaurant in Eastern Cape

I cannot lament the poor quality service enough.

No one was at the front of the restaurant so I sat myself down at the bar and orderd a glass of wine.

After about 10minutes I stop the nearest waiter asking him to reserve a table as soon as one becomes available - I am soon pointed(by the manager) in the direction of a table near the entrance.

After well over 20 minutes waiting on a menu I am forced to approach the manager myself who seemed overly concerned polishing cutlery instead of serving hungry, paying customers.

Training is poor - non-existent? - and the manager just milling about doing absolutely nothing except maybe polishing spoons(?)

It was extremely annoying having to run back and forth to get service, and then waiting and waiting.

20 minutes to get a waiter plus a further 20 minutes for a menu that was stored under a POS desk within reaching distance of my table.

I tried to explain my unpleasant experience to the manager but he wasn't having any of it, instead of showing some accountability he leaps into defense mode blaming his waiters - everyone and circumstance except himself (insert: arrogant, unprofessional and oblivious) He offered my wine "on the house" - I did not accept.

I decided to avoid an unpleasant altercation and proceeded to leave upon...

Charlie's pizza and pasta was average. Menu is amazing, vibe is amazing, but service is a big miss. I had called before I got to the restaurant, and the gentleman told us we have an outside table available so I decided we'd go. The table was dirty when we got there, waited 20 minutes just to get first service. The waiter didn't introduce himself, he was absent to say the least, gave us napkins in his hand and dropping it into the table. With that being said, he did recommend a great cocktail and the wine was amazing too, we had the badsberg chenin blanc. My mushroom pasta was good, for a mushroom pasta, I will try their spicy pastas next time. When we moved inside, the vibe was nice, the atmosphere was good. The room was well lit and the waiters were friendly, we had waited 45 minutes for our food, but apparently the big tables who had ordered before us, made it so that our food took longer. Fair enough. Nosipho checked on our food when she saw how long we were waiting.

My wife and I were visirors to Port Elizabeth and looked for a place where we could have a pizza in a good cosy atmosphere. We like to dine out as we enjoy the fact that we can just relax with no hassle. We chose Charlies Pizza because it was close to our hotel. We got there and was helped at the door to a section which seemed to be more suited to a younger crowd as the other it seems more popular section was full.. Then the staff promptly forgot about us. Nobody came to ask for our order or even bothered to acknowledge us. We had to indicate that we needed assistance and as is the case in this type of situation you as the customer feel more embarrassed and you react with a demeanor which shows on your face. My wife ordered a pasta dish which she enjoyed and I had a pizza which was also ok. For drinks I had a nice white wine and she being a teetotaller ordered tea which took ages to come. I general the food and drinks were ok but that initial introduction to a place was infuriating and left a bit of a bad taste...
