While ordering food , we ordered a chicken mayonnaise sandwich and hot chips
The sandwich was presented in a packet , the sandwich had fallen apart in the packet.
There were traces of grated cheese in the sandwich. When staff were questioned as to how this can happen, they took the food to remake another sandwich.
The second sandwich arrived and on inspection , a hair was found in the sandwich. This was addressed with the staff and management and the staff member blatantly lied about being notified of the hair .
The staff were extremely rude and walked away mid conversation.
Thus does not give a good impression of the usually good service.
Staff training should be given on how to treat clients with respect and not walk away whilst being addressed.

Sadly this has not only happened on this occasion - I recently went back to the windmill and ordered the same order yet again .
This was also repeated with cheese and the chips were raw and not cooked properly
This was addressed with management and staff yet again and the manager replaced the order only to get the preset wrong again .
Come on management - you giving yourself a bad name - when poor service is presented numerous times and yet you still present wrong orders - the staff need serious customer care training and need to be addressed for rude arrogant behaviour.
Please management- sort this poor service out.
After receiving bad service on numerous times and addressing it with management, there is still a breakdown in communication between the person taking the order and the person preparing the order.
On 2025-08-01 I again went to the windmill Quigney , and I ordered a toasted ham cheese tomato and onion - the food was delivered with the sandwich falling apart and the sandwich contained an egg.
I immediately addressed this with management who offered me another sandwich and I was reimbursed for the order
I refused to accept food from the manager. I wish to warn people to please check your orders -
Windmill management please address this multiple poor service - you are giving yourselves a bad name in East London.
It took close to an hour to resolve the matter.
Staff seriously need training in dealing with issues
Please management How many more times does a loyal customer have to receive poor service?
Not only once but numerous times. After offering poor service - people wonder why companies lose customers.

We ordered 2 Dagwood burgers and 2 large cheesy jalepeno chips. The chips were good but had nowhere near enough cheese sauce. The chips arent oily. (Steers cheesy chips beats windmill , and roco-mamas cheesy-chips rank first place) The burger was perfect in every way. Super juicy , nicely toasted bun, perfectly soft egg, delicious bacon. When i took my first bite there was an explosion of flavor.
The service was great. As we drove in , someone handed us our menu. He was patient , helpful and friendly.
I highly reccomend eating at windmill roadhouse. It was a fantastic experience.
(Remember to give them a tip when you pay, the server was so thankful it seemed as though nobody ever tips.)

Food: Overall I enjoyed it
I ordered a dagwood burger with chips. No seasoning on the meal but they do provide you with salt/vinegar/tomato sauce. The burger patty was very dry. The egg was overcooked and rubbery (likely because it was a delivery - Windmill not at fault) The bacon and onion on the burger - juicy, flavorful, delicious. The chips had good texture, not oily.
(I removed the egg and patty, and after that it was divine)
Service:
Delivery was fast. Approximately 15 minutes
The lady on the phone with whom I placed my order accidentally gave the delivery guy the wrong room number, but he called me and sorted it out.
Delivery guy had a great attitude.
Price: Dagwood burger with chips R110 Cost of delivery is R25 (very affordable) (plz tip delivery guys)
I've ordered food from Windmill Roadhouse afew times. I'm usually more harsh with my reviews but from my past experience I know their food is good.

Read moreThere are three sections to the Windmill Roadhouse - there is the shop facilities, with their own bakery and a decent stock compilation (caters very well for bus travellers etc). Then there is the Windmill Roadhouse itself that is a well-known establishment for many, many years, especially renowned for their burgers, chips and pizzas (I love all three, so I am biased :) ). They have the locally well-known system of park and order, whereby waitrons serve customers that utilise their hazard lights to signal when wanting to order. Food is brought to the customers in their vehicles, and there is the option to stay parked and eat, or drive to a scenic location (such as the nearby beachfront along the Esplanade etc.) The food is always of a high quality (what I have personally found over 10 years myself). The last section is the restaurant and cocktail lounge, known as "Cafe Neo" which is situated on the first flor. It has both general floor seating, as well as recessed booths for general diners. The food is of excellent quality, and has a thrumming, semi casual yet upmarket atmosphere and feeling. The cocktail lounge is open plan to the restaurant yet a distinctly separate area, with a balcony available as well, bar and general seating as well as couches for comfortable seating options.
