Beach Blanket Bohemia — Restaurant in Gauteng

I had a business guest from Portugal and thought this was an ideal and convenient spot to chill. We walked in and sought assistance to a table - we had to find our own. Walking in through the bar was crowded, jostling to get through the intoxicated, we felt uneasy.

The music was extremely loud! My guest and I literally screamed, and laughed at ourselves with an aim to get our bit of fun in, but we couldn't carry a conversation despite being seated on the most extreme side away from the music and closer to the other exit. (Our conversation was held at another spot the next day.)

The Calamari main dish with stir fry is overpriced for the portion. The contents were spread out on the plate to appear more but I had to order another side to get my fill. It was extremely salty! My guest tasted/shared and agreed.

The Chicken quesadilla was regular. Nothing more to note. Our fruit drinks took longer than normal to arrive and it was regular mass quality.

The live band was great. Just wish the volume was toned down to allow patrons...

Well, me going there the first time was not so pleasant experience, the manager had the audacity to only ask white customers if the food was okay and skip myself and another black gentleman if we were okay, on top of that the waiters have this notion (I think they get that from the manager) that only white customer's tip and they jump even at a sneeze to attend to them but i had to spend 15 minutes to find my waiter just to pay the bill (I tipped because my wife asked me to but for that service i was not), let alone wait 30 minutes for a simple burger to come while there was only 5 tables with customers. The more disappointing was that me and my pregnant wife spent the whole eating experience chasing away flies at the restaurant than enjoying our food. It was the first and last i set foot there...drove all the way from Northriding for something different but unfortunately...

What an amazing experience at Beach Blanket Bohemia! We stopped by for breakfast and ordered the El Benne and Mexican Benedict—both looked absolutely stunning when they arrived, but the taste? Even better! Every bite was packed with flavor, and you can tell a lot of care goes into their food.

A huge shoutout to our waiters, Thabiso & Sam, who took such great care of us. They were friendly, attentive, and always checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. Honestly, some of the best service we’ve had in a long time! The manager was just as welcoming—greeting us as we walked in and even taking the time for a short, friendly chat. It’s small things like this that make a place feel special.

We’ll definitely be back, next time for some tapas (those chicken strips are calling our name!) and cocktails. Can’t wait to visit again—keep up the...
