I don't know why no one still mentioned it, maybe it happens only in the morning when I usually go there. But this is the most unkempt, dirty brunch I've been to. They open at 7 am but strat cleaning only about 9 am, tables are always dirty in the morning with sticky spots. It is also not good when u eat/drink while stuff are cleaning around you. At the bar counter inside is always a mess, often there are no lids for coffee, no serviette. And also only in this brunch I have constant problems with the bill being correct, neither the waiters nor the manager knows how the current promotions work, the app and its functions. You constantly have to clarify something with them. It is extremely unpleasant. And this experience has been repeated for 2 years. Last time I decided to give it a try but everything is still dirty and untidy, poorly trained staff and an uneducated manager in her job. I will not return to this brunch. In other brunches in Johannesburg and Cape Town I have never received such a constant negative experience. So I leave this review based on my visit to this branch in the morning for 2 years. I would rather go to Olivedale brunch where bill comes correct without me to be involved, the staff knows how the application works, coffee cups are clean without traces of coffee spilled on them by the barista and no one wipes my coffee lid with a dirty table cloth when I did not ask of it.

Bootlegger Coffee Company is a gem in the Fourways Design Quarter. The atmosphere is cozy and modern. Their cappuccino is a masterpiece, a perfect balance of robust espresso and creamy foam. The shakshuka breakfast is a flavourful delight, with just the right amount of spice. The eggs poached in a vibrant tomato sauce, accompanied by warm bread, create a divine combination. The friendly and attentive staff adds to the charm of the place. For coffee enthusiasts and food lovers, Bootlegger Coffee Company offers an unforgettable experience. Don't miss the opportunity to savor their excellent range of coffees in a welcoming ambiance. Power outlets and free wifi round off a great experience if you're working remotely.

I am always a fan of the bootleggers chain of restaurants and have visited several. The one in the newly renovated Design Quarter is a great place to visit and unwind in the large open space with indoor and outdoor seating perfect for the joburg weather. They serve from breakfast 🥞 food to light meals throughout the day. There is ample space and we have always been seated on arrival

I recommended Bootleggers Design Quarter this morning for breakfast as I had been there when it first opened and it was great. I was extremely disappointed with the experience today. After ordering my friend and I sat for 45 minutes waiting for our food. During this time not one waiter came and checked on us. Eventually I got up to get someone’s attention, I was told the food was almost ready so I asked if we could at least order something else to drink seeing as no one had come to the table since ordering. Five minutes later another waiter came to ask what we had ordered, I expect that was only when our food order was actually placed. So well after an hour we finally got two very unappetising breakfast buns which were luke warm. Then the waiter asked us if we could pay his tip cash, after the shocking service we had just received! None of us had cash on us but we still did the standard tip. The place was not busy so that can’t be used as an excuse. Definitely will...

Possibly the worst chocolate cake I've had, for a supposed day old cake, the cake layers were dry.

The buttercream was grainy and it tasted quite strange, like a vaguely nutty flavor that was not good at all. We had asked for some form of compensation as we couldn't enjoy the cake, but all we got was condescension, to the effect of our inability to taste or that the cake wasn't meant for our taste (which i will say left a bitter taste in my mouth worse than the cake)

For R 60+ anyone would expect a regular chocolate cake to, in the least, taste of chocolate.

While the rest of our time at Bootleggers was good, the waitstaff were incredible as always and the atmosphere was also incredible. I believe that when a customer is expected to pay R60+ for a single slice, that slice should be good, and if it is not, an establishment as such, I'm sure is more than capable...
