I just had the most weird experience here. I checked in last night and noticed the air conditioning doesnât cool. However because I had just arrived from a long flight, I slept it over, went to my work today and when I came back I reported the issue to the front desk. They sent somebody to check it with me. After 10 minutes of playing with the remote, the guy went down and said something to them in Zulu. I could understand heâs saying it doesnât cool. The receptionist turned to me and said: So Sir, all of the other rooms all the same, they donât cool more than that. But if you want, I can change your room. I asked surprisedly: what do you mean? Do you mean you ignore my valid complaint but then you change the room to keep my mouth shut? I noticed that the receptionist is not trained to value customer opinion. They change your room, but they want to make you feel like youâre being difficult. So I changed the room and went down again to give back the key card of the first room, I also said: by the way, the airco on this room does work. He said with an offended face, ok Sir. So I asked him: are you happy that my problem is solved? He said yes. Point: Why does the receptionist take a common complaint so personally and tries to proof me wrong? I wouldnât have ended up typing this review if he had just said: sorry about the airco sir, letâs give you a room with a working airco.

Hi Mandy,
Thank you for your support. You did indeed put the effort to talk to me in person and for me that is valuable.
Best...
Read moreWhat a joke. Came here to stay for 5 days, after hospital surgery. Paid R2000 deposit for food and beverages. On my first order I waited over an hour for my sandwiches. On arrival the gentlemen at my room door denied me my food and wanted me to pay again. I gave him my signature and he denied it allowing my food to go cold as he took it away from me. Went to reception sick in my pyjamas, to complain as the entire situation escalated, into lies by staff and management. Mangement changed over to an African language, so that I can't understand what she was saying, putting words in my mouth, I never said. Confronting her and trying to record her, she laughed at me and walked away back into the office. Instead of resolving the matter, I was given my money back in cash, being displayed all over the counter. Thankfully I'm not the owner of this hotel, as the female manager will run this hotel down. Makes me wonder if she is even qualified, to be in her position. Never seen this type of ignorance or incompetence, being displayed in a private sector? In Europe a manager like this will be fired on the spot. Thank you to Jacques and the lady who counted out my money. At least they understand if a person is sick and were very professional from check-in to checkout. If covid did not kill this hotel, the staff will. Will be so happy if they see the backside... Don't forget, that it's the foreigners with the real money. By treating us like animals you are chasing the last...
Read moreI recently stayed at City Lodge for one night due to an emergency situation. While the hotel did provide me with a place to rest, the overall experience left quite a bit to be desired.
The room itself was reasonably sized and the bed was comfortable enough for a short stay. However, the furnishings and overall look of the room felt dated and in need of some serious TLC. It gives the impression that the hotel has not been refreshed or modernized in quite some time. Small details such as worn-out fittings and tired décor stood out and took away from the comfort factor.
The bathroom was the biggest disappointment. The shower drain was clogged, which made using it frustrating, and it lacked some of the basic amenities you would normally expect â things like sufficient toiletries and better water pressure. For a hotel that caters to both business and emergency travelers, these essentials should be standard.
On the positive side, the staff were polite and check-in was quick and efficient, which I appreciated given my circumstances. The location is also convenient, making it easy to access nearby areas without too much hassle.
Overall, City Lodge served its purpose for an emergency overnight stay, but I wouldnât choose it for a planned trip or a longer visit unless some improvements are made. With proper maintenance, updated rooms, and better attention to amenities, it could easily become a much more comfortable and reliable option...
